Hardest Featherweight Hitter

He wasn't an ATG, of course, and maybe not even the hardest hitter, but Clement Sanchez deserves mention here. He ko'ed Kuniaki Shibata in 1972 with one big right hand to win the featherweight title. A classic one punch ko, almost completely forgotten, and maybe that's because he was the featherweight equivalent of Ingemar Johannson, in that he was dethroned in his very first defense against Jose Legra in a fight that was stopped in 10 after Legra had him down a total of 10 times. Sanchez, however, had his moment in the sun by scoring that one big booming right hand on Shibata which put the Japanese down for the 10 count, and then some.

Sandy Saddler definitely.

 

............At the time, I was a huge Azumah fan, and so practically by definition, I tended to root against McGuigan. Time has allowed me to take a moe objective look back and appreciate what he did and the kind of guy he was. I've been looking for a copy of the McGuigan-Cruz fight. Thanks for reminding me of that.

 

Saddler knocked out the great Willie Pep. No one did that to Pep in the 1940s, saddler starched him outta there in 4 rounds, it was a slaughter. Saddler lifted(im tryin to think of his name) in a title defense in the air with a left hook. I dont think any fighter can match saddler in all around punching abilities.

 

O **** I almost forgot danny little red lopez. he was the hardest hitter bar none in brute force, more than hamed.

 

What does that have to do with punching power? That has to do with overall boxing ability and accuracy, not flat out power.

people say the berra hamed fight was better but that was just a hamed beating n not really much of a fight!, Mcguigan n Cruz they both gave it there all it was fast and furious and had 15 brutal rounds in the exasting heat 2 guys giving it there all never ask for anything better!

 

.........I know all fighters have excuses for losses, but in McGuigan's case that day, I buy the idea that he just wasn't right in there. Cruz was never known for being terribly resilient, but McGuigan, who'd been so strong and so forceful in other fights, just couldn't do anything with him. He fought well enough early on, but there was a certain snap missing that day. Could have been the heat, I suppose. I do remember just before going out for the 15th round, he told his corner to pray for him. He was done.

LOPEZ defintley hit harder than hamed

 

It has to be Terry McGovern.

If not the hardest hitter he was certainly the most efective.

 

I HATE that piece of garbage (as a person) Hamed but,.......he is the hardest hitting feather in my eyes by a few hairs over the aforementioned fighters.
