At the lower weights you have to give some credit to Ruben Olivares (79 Kos) vs Jesus Pimental (69 Kos), Ruben Olivares (79 Kos) vs Alexis Arguello (72 Kos), Roberto Duran (70 Kos) vs Thomas Hearns (48 Kos), Marvin Hagler (52 Kos) vs Thomas Hearns (48 Kos), Carlos Zarate (63 Kos) vs Wilfredo Gomez (42 Kos), Julian Jackson (49 Kos) vs Gerald McClellan (29 Kos), and Ray Robinson (108 Kos) vs Rocky Graziano (52 kos).

 

A lot of the fighters in this thread were not regarded as huge punchers despite what the statistics might say. Golota for one. Mercer is another. Who would class him as one of heavyweights huge punchers? Most heavyweights can dig a bit but Foreman, Tyson and Liston etc are in a different league. Ibragimov was alos mentioned. I assume that's a joke? I also don't class Walcott as a huge puncher.

 

Also worth a mention but certainly not in the top 10 was Peter v.s this guy...

• Tua vs Ibeabuchi set a CompuBox record for most combined punches thrown in a heavyweight fight: 1,730.

• Ibeabuchi also set the individual record by throwing 975 punches and averaging 81 per round. The heavyweight average is around 50.

The recent Chisora-Whyte bout was the poor man's version of this high level classic. The HW version of Gatti-Ward, if you will.
Unfortunately, both of their careers were derailed which allowed the Klitschos to rule.

 

Nothing "Allowed" the Klitschkos to rule there genius. The HW division just didn't have a choice.

Tua got his skull boxed in by Byrd and had that draw with Rahman that was in all actuality a Rahman win. Tua was never beating a Klitschko. Ibeabuchi had how many CLEAR wins against top level guys?? And I'm not talking about his razor close decision against Tua that could have gone either way.

 

With Tua and Ibeabuchi side-lined, the HW division didn't have any COMPETITION.
