I'll second that. Having that sort of power at middleweight is much more impressive IMO then being a big puncher at heavy. It is far less common.

It's a hard thing to come up with the best p4p puncher ever, but if
you have to pick a winner based on the opponents reaction to the punch and the split second turn on a dime fight changing in an instant
power. Then the winner is w/out question julian jackson. He could take
a full steam ahead fighter and put them to sleep with 1 quick punch.
No one had that kind of take your life power except maybe shavers, but
still not w/ the devastation that JJ did.

This is such a hard question to answer as there are so many candidates. But, having watched some of Julian Jackson's fights on Youtube lately, I'm leaning towards him as well.
That right hand was absolutely frightening.

I've seen clips of many fighters from past generations but I have not seen enough to actually state claim on them. Guys like Stanley, Fitz, Shavers, even Marciano....havent seen enough of them. I need to catch up on my classic dvd's I've seen about 15 Ray Robinson fights and Joe Louis....they hit like trucks when the wanted to but every punch was not meant to hurt more like set up the hurting. :yep

I read something once where a guy described three types of power punchers. I'd give credit, but I don't remember who wrote it. Here is the gist of what he wrote......

Speed Punchers: Mike Tyson, Jermain Taylor
This boxers throw fast punches and that speed translates to power. They're dangerous and can deliver the most power punches in the shortest amount of time but they sometimes have stanima problems maintaining the speed that gives them their power throughout a fight.

    Focus punchers: Edison Miranda
These fighters put every ounce of strength they have into their punches. They hit the hardest. But not all their punches have their full power and if they're not set ( such as being forced to fight going backwards) then they can't utilize their power at all.

    Heavy Hands: Kelly Pavlik
These fighters through their size and conditioning throw hard punches with every shot. While not the hardest puncher, they consistently throw very hard punches throughout the fight resulting in an accumulative effect that is often devastating.

It's hard to just pick one, but I reckon John Mugabi is right up there with the best of them.

Mugabi was a monsterous puncher. The late & great trainer George Francis once said Mugabi was the hardest puncher he had ever trained. Remember, Francis trained many, many fighters during his life,.

id go for jackson, benn, mclelland and hamed......of the heavyweights, for saheer power mind, not ability...surprised nobodys named frank bruno......if frank caught you right you were in ***** street.......i read a great quote about the difference between getting hit by fast punches or big clubbing punches...it was from a guy who had fought joe frazier and george foreman....he was asked who hit harder and replied...getting hit by joe frazier is like getting hit by a little pontiac doin 90mph, and getting hit by george foreman is like getting hit by a big caddilac doin 50mph.....they both gonna knock you over!!
