was it in a fight/contest or in sparring ?? by far the hardest shots i've taken have been in sparring sessions.
Sparring all the way. The hardest shots I've taken probably haven't been the hardest punches, and definitely weren't by the biggest punchers i have access to, they just caught me off guard when I was trying something new. **** happens.
Afew fights ago, I walked straight into a right cross, didn't see it coming and the guy could hit a bit as well. My left eye blacked out and I got pins and needles in my left leg. Luckily I still had my senses and I grabbed the guy. In my fight after that I got stung right on the bell. Again with the straight right, this time I was swapping straight rights with a guy and as he landed the bell rung and I didn't hear it at all. Apparently though he was hurt by my punch as well but I did not notice.
Probably my first fight, i was so stiff this guy caught me with a huge uppercut. I held him but played it off like he was holding me so the ref didn't think about it.
Sparring sessions no doubt, i was in there with a pro and he wanted to "teach" me how to react when in trouble......BAM!! right behind the ears, for a good 5 seconds i was caught in the Matrix (no relation to Dirrell lol) but i recovered and countered him with a stiff jab and knocked him down so i think i passed:!:
over hand right, sparring a pro who at the time was 15kg heavier. He hit me flush on the chin and my feet felt like they were planted to the mat and my body went all stiff, my body froze i couldnt move. If he followed up i would have been out cold. That is the only time i have been hurt by a punch. I have been hit hard lots of times but usually take the punches pretty well.
i was sparring with another lad when i was 15 and he broke half of one of my teeth, the same lad knocked me down with a right cross.he was about 3 stone heavier than me and could really hit.years later when i was a senior i caught some left hooks to my body and head that really hurt.i pro southpaw that i was sparring with once nearly caved my ribs in. the hardest punch that i took in a fight was a body punch and when i beckoned him in he fell for the ruse.had he hit me again to the body, he'd have stopped me. i'm glad i didn't tell him after the fight because i boxed him twice more .
I have a solid iron chin unlike you tomato cans. However once when i was about 17 a Thai boxing instructor hit me with a wicked body shot right in the pit of my stomach and i vomited. I will never forget that and it has made me ultra vigilant towards body shots. That will never happen again by anyone who isnt absolutely top notch.
When I was an amateur I ran straight onto a Hamed style corkscrew uppercut straight into the mouth ! My front teeth ached for about 2 weeks
We spar without head gear cos most of us dont have it and i think it was a punch to the ribs. Never taken one, never want to take one again.
LOL, I'm pretty lucky in some respects, I'm real short for my weight so people never really bother with bodyshots. Couple that with my massive coconut head and you have someone built to take beatings. if only my ability to box was half as good..
i had a long skinny torso and a little head.polar opposites me and you.i'd take a head shot over a body shot all day and night.
