Hmm morrison had a hell of a hook, but his other punches were above average mostly.

Tyson threw with bad intentions the first 4-5 rounds but then he lost steam. He woulfld then become a stalking wait-for-one-big-punch slugger usually. Or hed save his energy and throw fast sharp punches to get points, only throwing hard with the last one.

Joe also would save the steam on his punches but he had naturally hard knuckles. Even his jabs would bust guys lips and teeth. Most of his kos were from combinations noy just one big shot.

Liston had battering rams for arms and huge fists. He shook his opponemts up and nobody wanted to engage him for too long. The fact he lacked speed and snap and still brutalized guys is very telling.

    Overall id say

    Louis
    Tommy/tyson even
    Liston.

I say Tyson, but the one man who gets my vote as hardest single shot puncher of all time is David Tua.

For just pure power it's Tyson, no question. In fact I think Tyson routinely gets overlooked in discussions like this due to a mistaken belief that his effectiveness as a KO artist came primarily from speed and combinations, while his raw power was lacking. When you can routinely drop and stop huge, sturdy heavyweights with one punch even late into your career your raw power isn't lacking.

Morrison and Liston would be next. I can't really separate the two as they both have polar opposite types of power: Morrison was all explosiveness, snap and technique, while Liston was all ponderous brute heavy handedness. One could crack you and short circuit your nervous system, the other could bludgeon you into a coma.

Louis is last on the list. No knock on him as a fighter but I've never rated him as a huge one shot puncher. Plus his competition was a lot smaller and less resilient than I would like when rating across eras to give a true representation of his power.

I also think Tua was one of the hardest punchers of all time, at least with the left hand. Some of his knockouts were just sickening.

I am surprised for many people picking tyson... Tillis, ruddock and thomas the 3 said that morrison did hit harder .
And tua is one of the hardest punchers ever (not the one) but he has nothing to do here.

I won't disagree with anyone that says that Morrison had a harder left hook, but not on the basis of what other fighters said. Tons of guys said XYZ hit harder than Tyson, but it was Tyson who was routinely bowling over said guys, usually in brutal fashion and with a minimum of fuss (one or two shots straight to the dome).

This case is not even similar... Morrison did hurt more these 3 guys than tyson with a single shot... Nobody that fought morrison and tyson said that mike did hit harder.. I would dispute it (like foreman-shavers) if the words say one thing but the facts showed another thing but with morrison and tyson it is not the case.. The word of the rivals in common and the facts indicated the same thing. And nobody did talk about left hook.. They said that morrison did hit harder overall than tyson

Johnny Tocco who has seen fighters such as Cleveland Williams, Sonny Liston, George Foreman, Mike Tyson, up close said Liston hit harder than them all!

Louis and dempsey said that foreman was the hardest puncher that they saw ever.
