Frazier weighed in the 190's in his earlier career.

I think Dempsey’s power is overrated.

He wore gloves that had no padding compared to the modern era. He knocked people down but they got up ... again and again and again. Even though he could stand over them and load up his hardest shots when they were basically defenseless. Yet they did continue to get up.

I think he was a savage, and I mean that in a good way. His attack was relentless.

But for pure power, give me Louis and Marciano. I doubt Dempsey could have guys down better with more modern gloves and rules.

It's not true .. he started at 203 and stayed over 200 his entire career .. what's interesting is how much more cut he looked in his younger days .. even more so than as a title holder.

Just asking a question here....who did Dempsey k.o. with one punch? He's at the top of this list but his most famous fight..Willard....was attrition not a 1 punch job. I think even Carpentier needed a flurry of punches to go down.

I'd take Julian Jackson over most HW's.

I don't think that Dempsey's power is over rated.

No other 190lb fighter has ever been so destructive against legitimately world class super heavyweigth sized fighters.

He also inflicted horrible damage on his opponents/sparring partners.

He punched Bill Brennan so hard that he broke his ankle.

Having said this, Dempsey did think that Marciano hit harder than he did, and he cited his one punch KO of Walcott as evidence of this.

I didn't mean literally...just was a killer one punch ko artist and lots of hw's are arm punchers.

It's a good reference starting point if nothing else, I do know he started as welterweight I believe, but Langford himself moved up an incredible amount and somehow his power translated just about all the way to the top.
