So there's an almost unanimous consensus that the hardest hitting 180-199lb fighters were all born 70+ years ago? Any theories on why not a single one of the thousands and thousands of boxers that size who were born in the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s could hit as hard as them?

Glove size, rule changes, and more appreciation for faster more scientific boxers?

Majority of people that fought Curits Sheppard said he was the hardest puncher they faced Archie Moore stated the same. Also Ezzard Charles said Satterfield hit harder then Marciano.

While not at the very top of the list, Walcott could crack and was sub 200

Like who ? No one hit harder at 175 than Foster and heavyweights walked thru him .. some who might have squeezed in under 200 chose not to .. maybe ST Gordon. Jose Luis Garcia was a big puncher. Bert Cooper was a huge puncher.

Rt. Prime Fitz fought James Jeffries twice and Corbett once, at 165-167 lbs. Jeffries was in the 205-219 range.

Ray Actis was supposed to have crazy punching power. I remember reading how they would have to put all his knuckles back in place after his fights. And apparently he hit harder then Joe Louis.

Again, these aren't the best fighters who hit the hardest but the guys, scrubs or champs, who hit hardest regardless of their accomplishments.

More ghost chasing about an old time bias?
Ask the forum the same question about MWs and see how many people don't include Gennady Golovkin.

I'm assuming that most people picked the same handful of fighters because they all KO'd much bigger fighters, and had legendary punching power that we can witness for ourselves, and/or because of testimonials, reports, and a whole web of factors.

These guys were generally the biggest punchers in all of boxing during their day.

Don't old school critics have the utmost regard for the ability to KO bigger fighters?

Ironically, Ezzard Charles hit pretty bam hard before an opponent died after a bout, then EC never went all out with his own power from that point on.
