Just wondering who people think is the harsdest punching welterweight in the division at the moment?

Obviously Maidana and Thurman come to mind, and Pacquiao has great power.

As crazy as it sounds, in terms of one punch power, i think JMM has the most power with his overhand right. Here's why.

1 - He put Manny Pacquiao down twice, and out. Pacquiao has shown nothing but a great chin in the Welter division, getting tagged hard by Cotto and Marg (at 150lb) but always came back firing. I get that the KO was just a punch he didn't see but he saw the 1st one in the 3rd round and still got dropped hard.

2 - In the Alvarado fight, he landed some huge shots and when he connected clean he knocked him half way across the ring.

I am not saying JMM is Tyson'esque - he isn't. I am just saying in terms of one punch power his big right hand for me is the hardest shot in 147lb currently.

    Thoughts?

JMM punching power in that fight was almost as immense as Pacquiao's forward momentum lunging into that right hand like a starving rodent chasing a bag of cheese puffs off a cliff. Not saying Pacquiao is a rat or anything though, he was more like a hamster stuck in a running wheel.

But somewhere along the line Pacquiao stopped using his hamster wheel, and JMM started using it instead (?) :?

Thurman maybe? People won't think so because of his recent fight but I believe he held back. I believe he wanted to go 12 rounds with a vet for the experience.

Who the **** has Brook stopped?

Don't get me wrong, I do think that Brook probably has underrated power but he really hasn't stopped any good opponents so how can you say he has the best power at Welter?

He never really even had Porter in trouble despite dominating him.

I might go with Maidana a he's a natural 140/7lb fighter, and outside of Alexander has hurt every top notch opponent he's fought. Thurman also came to mind like most but I'll wait to see if he's still hurting fighters when he moves above c/d class, maybe if he was focus and active Ortiz could be a good shout?

the bold part about JMM in indeed one of the craziest things I ever read on here, now that is saying a lot.

jmm is NOT what anyone could call a power puncher at WW never mind one punch ko power. that is going way over board.

seriously, we have people claiming jmm is now some monstrous puncher at WW because he ko'd paq ? wow, just wow. ANYONE can be ko'd with the right shot landed at tha right time. that's exactly what happened with the jmm pac ko. pac went right after that quick short counter right with all pacs might.

pac running into it with everything he had was about at MIN 40% the reason for the coma, 20% was the power jmm had available to add to the results and the other 40% was the timing of it, the fact pac had NO idea a shot was coming in and paq still being a little soft upstairs remaining from the 3rd round KD.

add them all together and you have someone that appears to have legit one punch ko power, umm but, the fans with experience and working brains knows that was everything and many contributing factores all rolled into one that had that type of result.

its funny, we have fighters that have taken much more devastating shots than that one and be stopped, yet, they are all clowned on here for packing china. NO consistency on this board. its not like pac was ever packing an elite chin for crying out loud

Thurman couldn't KO 40 year old Euro-level Bundu.

I'm not saying Thurman doesn't hit hard. I'm just saying that he needs to fight better opponents before we go crazy about his power.

If Thurman stops Guerrero, then we can say he has elite power.
