Just seen the card for Channel 5s live offering tomorrow night. I don't like to critique the sport I love but whilst I regularly see criticsm of Ben S and his offering on sky, the quality of boxing offered to channel 5 with a terrestrial platform has been consistently atrocious this is another very very poor card.
The only reason that channel 5 have a contract with Wasserman must be so they don’t have to do anything but provide the time slot. It would make much more sense to let any promoter, small or large, put together a show and let 5 decide whether it is good enough or not. A bit like Sky used to with the Friday Fight Nights of yesteryear. That would almost guarantee a British title fight or better on every broadcast. Wasserman ( Sauerland ) have never had a decent stable throughout their time with 5 so it’s no surprise to anyone that their offerings are so bad. It’s only 5 or 6 shows a year. Surely they can conjure up something better than Harlem Eubank in a 10 rounder.
I think Harlems fight bizarrely is actually an 8 rounder. Its a shockingly poor card and I would imagine if you got it right the Channel 5 deal could be a real good one to have
Basically if its worthless it goes on C5 Any monetary value and it's on DAZN Since the Eastern European boxing cards died a death they have been hustling big time The boxing series was a great idea and for most purposes excucuted well Since then it's been pretty crap from them They don't even have Eubank now
Only a 90 minute slot tonight for the boxing- you get the feeling Channel 5 are looking for a new promoter or to exit the sport entirely. It’s not difficult to do boxing on terrestrial television- decent 50/50 British Title fights aren’t that hard to come by to pad out the schedule and are relatively cheap to put on. Mick did this for years and he rarely put on a bad show. Wasserman’s continued promotion of Harlem Eubank baffles me.
Mick deserves his Friday night slot back after sticking on many very good fights on Channel 5 in small venues. Alex Dilmaghani v Samir Ziani in 2020 was right up there with the best fights I have ever watched.
The commentator during the opponent's ringwalk - 'he does not carry a great deal of power' What an understatement with 1 TKO in 19 fights.
