RIP to one of my most favorite boxers. Best pure technicians in the game along with a beautiful style. Hope he lived a great life.
Johnson was an incredible fighter, who fought in an era of incredible fighters. The last of the old guard in many ways. While it is always sad to see the passing of a great fighter, I think that his story is happier than that of many.
Very sad to hear this. Johnson was an all around excellent fighter, and my condolences go out to his family and friends.
Teddy Brenner once stated that the reason why he didn't utilize Harold Johnson more often was because "There's no room in boxing for perfection." If one believes in an afterlife, then one could Harold's in a place that welcomes his kind of perfection. RIP
sad to hear this, but glad he lived a long and full life a very great boxer RIP, and in many ways the last of an era
So sorry to hear this. Harold Johnson was one of my all-time favorites. A great technician and a real classy guy. God bless you, Champ!
Harold Johnson was one of a handful of fighters I call "my favorites"...my preferences in this sport tend to be the technicians, defensive specialists, savvy, clever,"off the back-foot" type fighters...counterpunchers, etc., Harold Johnson was as seamless and near perfection as you can get to in his tactical, technical, purist kind of way. He'll be missed,....a classy fighter and a classy man, like Floyd Patterson especially, and just a few others.
I recently read an article by a writer who about four or five years ago took the time to visit Harold Johnson in the Philly nursing home where he resided. He said that at the end of the visit, just before the reporter had to go, Johnson asked him "did I disappoint you any?" Imagine that. Imagine him asking that reporter that. I put Johnson in the same league as Floyd Patterson when it came to class.
