    Did Clay & Johnson ever spar in the early

    I dont know about that but when Johnson lost to Pastrano he was hunting a fight with Sonny Liston.

    I heard a story about a young Clay getting hit solidly on the jaw while sparring. He complained that it hurt, and Harold Johnson told him to chew gum. I don't know if Johnson was the one he was sparring with or not.
