Was Jim Brown doing a guest spot for the BBC commentary of Ali-Foreman? He called it right (and Joe Frazier) IIRC.

Frank, Bruno 48, told The Sun: "I'm devastated by his death and all choked up. Harry was such a gentleman and we had a wonderful relationship for so many years.

"It went way beyond work. We often met socially. He was always so kind and considerate and you couldn't help but respond to his charm.

"I am so sad. There will never be another like him

Harry Carpenter was a great voice of world boxing! He covered many sports for many years, but its the noble art that he will always be best remembered for. I do believe Harry covered the Boxing at every Olympics form 1956-1992?

He was liked & loved by many a fighter. Many of us know how close he & Frank Bruno were, but what alot of peopel do not know, is Harry was quite close with Mike Tyson!

Tyson was very fond of Harry & has always spoke well of him. Juts recently, Tyson was doing an interview & appeared to be bored, just going through the motions. Then the interviewer mentioned Harry Carpenter & Tyson perked right up, & was keen to know how Harry was, what he had been doing, etc.

Harry was a great servant to Boxing & a wonderful ambassador for the sport! With Reg Gutteridge & now Harry passed away, it really is the end of a unique boxing commentating era.

    RIP Harry!

  6. RIP Harry.

I was watching Tyson on the greats one time where Harry and a young Mike Tyson were sitting down talking about their knowledge on heavyweight boxing history. I finally saw a face to the voice i was familiar with, ever since then the name became concrete becayse experience he showed was one that commanded upmost respect. Like a modern day larry merchant.

Sad to say a good man has passed away.
