Just bought a book "Harry Greb: Pitsburgh's First Sports Superstar". On the back cover page it has different peoples top 10 list of fighters pfp. One of the lists is Matt McGrain's. What can you tell us about this McGrain? I hope the book is good. The cover is my current avatar.
Nah, nobody ever tells you they're using your p4p list. They just use it. Terrible. No reviews on Amazon for that book yet. Two good ones on Goodreads.
Is Rhas Al Guhl's on there? Read the Springs Toledo one ,that was good. Let us know what you think of it M.
Thx!!! I should get it pretty fast as Pittsburgh is close to Ohio. It said Matt McGrain from Boxing.com. what is boxing.com? Isn't this site Eastside boxing?
S L Comptons seminal book on Greb could not be bettered believe me, it is the most comprehensive book on ANY fighter I have read, and have read quite a few in my time, honestly you will be in awe of the the in depth accounts of his fights, and opponents, yes I know we all like to have a glimpse at the times and social climate of our favored fighters, but the fights, thats what we really want to be informed about in truth, and Comptons book does that comprehensibly. I implore you look no further please.
You were 1 of 6 experts w/ top 10s on the back cover. In order Burt Sugar, Matt McGrain, Teddy Atlas, The Ring mag, Max Kellerman and Sports Illustrated. Yours said 1. Langford 2. Greb 3. Robinson 4. Armstrong 5. Charles 6. Fitzsimmons 7. Ali 8. Gans 9. Louis 10. Roberto Duran
Yeah. Let's all close our minds at 1 persons perspective. Great book, but more help round out the man.
Nice to see Sugar in his rightful place, leading the charge. Kellerman!lol My partner knows more about boxing than him!
Steve Compton's massive and exhaustively researched Harry Greb book, Live Fast, Die Hard, is the best biography of a fighter that I have read. I don't know anything about the book, Harry Greb: Pittsburgh's First Sports Superstar. But I can say that the title of the latter book isn't accurate. Honus Wagner, a longtime shortstop for the Pittsburgh Pirates and one of the greatest baseball players ever, was active before Greb came onto the scene. - Chuck Johnston
