With the love affair on this forum for Greb, I started to really rate the man, to the point I had him rated #4 all-time:nut. A mistake on my part. After reading Paxton's book on Greb, (which took all of two hours, it was that lightweight), if that is all the evidence there is about Greb, he really cannot be rated as a top 20 all-time fighter. I do not doubt Paxton's passion, the book was a very easy read (if just a touch patronizing at times), and the evidence of Greb's greatness is there in black and white, but I knew Greb was great anyway, I needed to know why he was the fourth best fighter ever. But quite frankly there was nothing there that suggested Greb should be a top 20 all-time fighter. If they are the best reports and first hand accounts of Greb's fights, then Greb really cannot be considered up there with the Robinson's, Armstrong's and Duran's.
Lol, I could of done with a stiff drink after reading that book; I am so disappointed that seemingly that is all there is about Greb.
Wow, Harry Greb has a 104 -8 record. He beat all time greats like Tommy Laughlin, Maxie Rosenbloom, Mickey Walker, Billy Miske, Gene Tunney among others. It is a darn good resume.
T Booze, If this is a joke on your part atsch. Otherwise respectfully, find a new sport. Three hundred fights at about 158-60 pounds or so beating heavier LH and heavyweights weighing 15-40 pounds heavier as gene tunney, tommy gibbons, tommy Loughran, Maxie Rosenbloom, Jack Dillon, Billy Miske, Gunboat Smith, Bill Brennan, Mickey Walker and other alltime greats, doesn't impress you, than I have an autographed bra from lady Ga Ga, that might do the trick...:hi:
i agree, yet those who rate Greb so highly have never ever seen Greb fight. so how can they rate a guy so highly when never seeing him in action :huh.. Legendary trainers like Ray Arcel Whitey Bimstein & Doc Bagley writers A.J.Liebling & Nat Fleischer all who seen Greb fight from ringside or from the opposite corner never rated him as the mythical destroyer that many do today.
Fourth best? He's arguably the best. We've seen film of some of the amazing fighters he did beat. If any fighter not on film has as good a case by resume, I don't know who it is.
Can ths forum be officially made aware Quarry is babbling whatever he feels like making up on Greb, like his height was 5'6 he was 5'8 1/2 AJ Liebling never saw Greb fight, Whitey Bimsteen said "I don't put nobody over Greb" Arcel said Greb would destroy Hagler
