This is a good post BUT it will now be trashed to high heaven with claims that Gilbert Old never seen him fight, Gilbert Old does not know what he is talking about blah blah blah.. i have continuously said the very same points as you make here in that, Writers & Historians do not hold Harry Greb in the same highest pantheon as many do today on boxing forums. so with there being no film-footage available of Greb for one to make up a judgement on his style of fighting we can only go by what great writers and historians of that time had to say about Greb. and as pointed out here they do not hold him in the high regard as they do Dempsey, Tunney and others. yet only weeks ago we had a Dempsey thread and a Tunney thread with my case against Greb being that the writers & Historians of his day did not hold him in higher regard as Dempsey & Tunney yet i am told, "i am a Troll, a fool who does not know what i am talking about"... but the Trolls & Fools are the ones who cannot accept the word of great writers like Gilbert Old & trainers like Ray Arcel and who's whole agenda is to spew-out garbage about Greb is the greatest that ever lived and all other fighters are poor imitations compared to him :huh and i put this down to these modern books which have been written by young writers who have glorified the careers to make money from a book which goes completely against the word of legendary writers and historians like Old & Arcel.

 

Here are your double standards again. Its ok that Odd never saw Greb fought, but when other historians speak favorably tjey're wrong. What a joke!

Well Burt, we may disagree on things, but you gotta admit I was right about this guy being a troll. I've said it from the beginning, when this clown has no logical response he will troll and insult. Its a psycological mechanism spawned by insecurity and embarrassment. Most often you see it in adolescent children.

Why would you care what Gilbert Odd, of all people, thought about Greb when he covered boxing a freekin world away in London and never saw Harry fight?

Why not be impressed with someone like Grantland Rice, Dean of all Twentieth Century Sportswriters who saw everything and called Harry better than Sugar Ray Robinson??!! and liked his chances vs freekin Joe Louis???!!!
