Harry Greb defeated 18 men who held, had held, or would hold world titles. Tell me how that isnt reason enough for him to be at least top 10 ?
on your terms of all time ranking yes.. but not on my terms of all time ranking... H2H do you feel Greb beats Toney & Hearns?... who has Greb ever fought who resembled either in anyway?
your calling me yet your of the exact same opinion of Harry Greb as myself and Lewis i feel is just outside the Top 10 yet it seems to be a crime for anyone to rank him outside the Top 10 other than the people who classify the IBHOF rankings and so forth. because they can just be labeled as "Not knowing what they are talking about" :huh... no one is claiming Greb was not a great fighter with a great resume. they are saying they feel he gets over rated by the majority on this forum, yet that seems to be a crime.. mention Ray Robinson who is universally known as the greatest boxer who ever lived and i can guarantee the thread will become infested with comments of Harry Greb was better etc. mention Joe Louis who is universally known as the greatest Heavyweight champion of all times and you will get the thread flooded with comments like Lennox was too big for him, Lennox beat every man he got in the ring with or Lennox beats him 6 out of 10 times :huh... those kind of comments are a sign of that persons clear lack of that knowledge of the sport
yes it is reason enough for him to be rated Top 10 but does he beat Robinson, Monzon, Langford, Ketchel, Cerdan, Zale and others rated alongside him in the top 10 ?
H2H is such a subjective debate that I think any number of different lists could sound credible. As for the style comparison, I haven't watched footage of each of greb's opponents so I don't know how many are similar or not. The thing is with head 2 head, there is no right or wrong answer considering the nature of the sport. My rankings are based mainly on resume and legacy. Legacy is a bit ambiguous but it can read as fighting the best and being remembered as a great in a division. For example, jones jr is a head 2 head monster. But by not facing jackson, mcclellan, benn, liles, dm or lewis he never actually faced the top guy in any division he competed in. So his resume suffers a bit there. His legacy does save him tho, defeating hopkins and toney is amazing considering how he did it. Beating a number of genuine of top ten opponents from middle to heavy is brilliant no matter how it is spun, looking unbeatable up until the tarver fight is great also. Being champ from middle to heavy is a lie but he has done a lot of good through his career. So whilst I think a good argument can be made for him defeating any man south of heavyweight I don't think his combination of legacy and resume is enough for him to crack my top 25.
DT [detergent], coming from you, your invective language is a compliment. You don't have to act tough, to be tough...Cheers.[I think] ?
I wouldn't place lewis above louis on any heavyweight list and i'd be amazed if anyone did to be honest.
It's honestly very diffucult to make as many lame jokes as you often do. But then again, it must be easy for someone whose parents are siblings.
