Whoa, Bert. It was a joke. Given no footage of Greb, it's just to difficult to make a case either way for me.
To defend things that I hold to be true, is being "imperious", well I'll wear that mantle proudly...To call the past CRAP, was not meant as a joke in my opinion, but a crude and wrong attempt to demean great fighters of the past. Why should I let such a false disparaging remark go unchallenged ? Yours truly,Imperious Burt... P.S. I came from an era that was a helluva lot tougher than today's era of "anything goes",and I defend what i HONESTLY think is true S...Cheers.
Ehhhmmmm......the man just said it was a joke. The guy who wrote it himself(?) Whatever. Every forum needs one of you. Stay tough.
I am not unsympathetic to tht viewpoint but........... Grebs record suggests that he could probably beat anybody south of 200lbs on a given day.
S, Seamus himnself did not say it was a "joke" on the word CRAP of Greb's era and after. Haven't seen it,and no need for that mia culpa. He was wrong and history bears me out. P.S.Gene Tunney did NOT beat the fading Harry Greb the last 4 fights they met. All DISPUTED decisions. And Greb was a shot fighter ,with ALMOST three hundred bouts, and ONE EYE in their last bout. I wonder how Carlos Monzon would have fared against the great LH Gene Tunney, if Monzon had TWO HUNDRED more bouts under his belt, and ONE eye to boot, against one of the greatest Light Heavyweights Gene Tunney ?
**** it. Greb goes down like a Sunday hooker. Monzon in 7. Darren Van Horn would have ruled that era like Stalin. Happy now?
Burt , in the past I've defended you against some uncalled for criticism. In this case, it was clearly meant as a joke. Let it go.
I read Greb throws 2000 punches per round, Monzon won't keep up with that activity. Nah but, in all seriousness it would be crazy to predict this.
Carlos never seen a day he could out fight Greb, Greb beat better men and bigger men Greb by UD maybe tko.
