Anyway, I've often thought about this one and whether or not Langford could be the guy to stop Greb. In terms of styles, Langford has the advantage, but...it's just impossible to say. Greb was that special.
Klompton, nice to hear from you as it's been a while ... do you have any coverage of the Norfolk fights ? All that I read showed Greb was in over his head, that Norfolk was simply too strong, fast and good for him ... in addition to being significantly heavier ... any that could be posted would be interesting ... HE
He was only 5'6.5 tall an he Knocked out lightweights all the way up to big Heavyweights. All you gotta do is look at his record.Overating and Langford used in the same sentence should never ever happen
Ive got all the coverage from both of his fights with Norfolk. The first fight was split straight down the middle and as even a match as you could imagine with Norfolk winning the early rounds and scoring a flash knockdown. The last half of the fight Greb dominated and at the final bell had Norfolk in a corner nearly defenseless landing punch after punch. The referee of the fight said if he had been allowed to render a decision he would have raised Greb's hand. The second fight was at the height of Greb's partying, he was out of shape, weighed his career high weight, was called "hog fat" by the reporters. Most of the rounds were won by Norfolk but the papers all agree that it was not really a boxing match but more of a wrestling match, no-holds barred free for all with Norfolk just as guilty as Greb. In what would be the final round of the bout Norfolk landed a punch after the bell as Greb was turned and walking to his corner, he flew into a rage and retaliated setting off a small riot. Greb was disqualified but some sources said Norfolk was the offender and should have been DQd. Its telling that BOTH fighters were suspended in many states after the fight, not just Greb.
Well they say the Langford/Ketchel match was evenly contested. I think Sam had more power than Harry but Harry was a busy fighter, so I see this one being close also...Sam was strong but so was Tunney...This fight is a close one either way
