The only man Greb ever avoided.

I wouldn't call it an "avoidance" because Fulton was never in Greb's way. Harry just made it clear that the risk factor, namely Fulton's long left jab and the damage it might do to Harry's eyes, far outstripped the gains. Greb definitely thought he could beat Fulton. He just saw no percentage in taking such a bout.

According to the Globe Les Darcy embarrassed Fulton in a spar. The distance of the fight might be crucial.Over say 6 rounds Greb might make Fred look like an unco-ordinated giraffe , a longer distance might see that telephone pole jab put to grim use.

He made a statement once, saying that he would not fight Fulton unless it got him a title shot. He went on to say that he thought he could beat Fulton, but that the game was not worth the candle, unless it got him a title fight.

The only time this ever came close was in Pittsburgh for an charity card. They tried to match Greb and Fulton and but they werent going to pay Greb anything. Greb, at this point, was a leading contender in three divisions and Fulton was still a big name. Greb said no on the basis that the fight would be worth a fortune in a big venue in New York and he had no plans on giving it away. Understandable logic. As for the matchup its hard to say. Fulton is huge but based on the limited footage Ive seen on him I cant see how he beat some of the guys he beat. If Greb could get inside on him consistently Id favor him but if Fulton was better than he looks to me its a tough one. The one thing is that in the footage Ive seen Fulton gives up his height and doesnt really fight tall. Even so hed still be giant compared to Greb. I think it really depends on how Greb handles the size difference. Obviously he had a style to deal with this but Fulton would have been the tallest guy he ever faced. That being said he easily beat several people who easily beat or drew with Fulton so its a definite possibility.

Klompton how do you have all this rare film?

Seems to me if film of fulton ever came about, it wouldn't be impressive. It might be better for fultons legacy if film of fulton never became available to the public. I suspect he will look like willard carnera Simon and baer, no skills

Great to know...all these posters on here have been claiming for years Fulton was some tall jabber whom used his height and range to outbox smaller guys...glad to know this was just a fallacy

To be honest with you, there are so many contemporary reports that describe Fulton fighting that way, that it would take more than a single segment of film to overturn them.
