Fitz, Jones Jr, Jimmy Ellis, Floyd Patterson, Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, Bivins, James Toney, Sam Langford, Loughran, Billy Conn Hopkins, Hagler and Monzon might do aswell as some of those too
Thank you Ab, Nice to hear from you again. I'm fine. I get up each morning, look at the obituary column, don't see my name in there, that mean's all's well.Keep punchin A....bb
Greb wouldn't even beat most of the 80's babies. He would bea the following HW champs: Hasim Rahman (but it would be VERY tough) Marvin Hart Gerrie Coetzee Francesco Damiani
Greb was a top fighter at 165 - 170 pounds, considered by many the best pound-for-pound of all-time. Matching him against some top heavyweights, many of whom are 180-195, is utterly reasonable. Yes, the lack of footage is an issue. Still, I guess some sort of opinions can be formed. For example, Greb easily beat 195 pounders like Bill Brennan, who was arguably on the level of a Braddock. Greb beat loads of 185 - 195 pound guys like that. Jack Sharkey arguably deserved to lose a decision to Mickey Walker, who was the same size as Greb. Joe Louis had trouble with Billy Conn. Greb at least deserves consideration as a viable opponent.
Gene Tunney. Among others, of course. But that one alone should be enough to disprove your statement.
good post again mr bill.braddock is never going to be in the top 10 heavies but he was a very, very tough man. jack blackburn knew this and told joe louis to be wary.
How many of the guys mentioned in the opening post couldn't have been modern day Cruisers? Only Carnera, by my count.
mr bill u think this forum has some Harry Greb aficionados??? I gotta about a dozen or so post career interviews with mr Tommy Laughran wherein he NEVER fails to steer in subject onto......guess who?? Said Greb was the greatest he fought...favored him over both Dempsey AND Louis!! Do you doubt he would pick Greb over Braddock in an outbet??
To be perfectly honest, I think Bill Brennan and Tommy Gibbons, for starters, were better than Jimmy Braddock.
