Greb managed to get the better of Jack Dempsey in numerous hard sparring occasions (just read how ferocious Dempsey was to his sparring partners), and he also overcame size disadvantages over fighters who weighed around the same as Marciano. Examples are the 194 pound, hard hitting Bill Brennan, as well as the 188 pound Bob Roper, 186 pound Charles Weinert, 187 pound Jack Renault and 178 pound Kid Norfolk. What would Greb's chances be against Rocky?
They had many, even "numerous" sparring sessions? Please link this information, I have never heard such a thing, thank you!
Greb and Dempsey sparred from September 2-4 1920: https://www.harrygreb.com/dempsey_greb.html I've also heard that they also sparred during the summer of 1920 as well, but I don't have a source
With regard Greb vs Dempsey sparring sessions, yes Greb performed well, but later Greb i believe said not long before he passed away in 1926, words to the effect that in a regular fight, after a couple of rounds, Jack would kill me.
I reckon a good few guys Grebs size could make someone like Dempsey look silly for a few rounds, it’s not worth the squeeze when he realises he can take your swats and puts it on the line.
