It would have been a really interesting contrast of styles. Simon's aggression, workrate and power against Lara's great footwork, defense, speed and counter punches. The Namibian's offensive boxing is usually more appreciated by the judges but I think Lara's style would have put him in trouble. Wright had a great defense (although different from Lara's) and Simon won on points by MD after a very close fight (I honestly had Wright as the winner on my card but no controversy, it was really a very close fight). Lara in my opinion would have landed the most precise shots of the match, while Simon would have landed a few more. I say Lara by split decision but without controversy (like Castillo - Casamayor 3)

Lara is a class above Simon imo and in his prime only loses to the elite of the elite at 154 and even then I think he'd upset a fair few ATGs at the weight. Simon is just too unproven and struggled with too many fighters who were well below world class. Good fighter but mostly a "what if?" held up by his close and somewhat contentious win over a Winky Wright who hadn't quite found the form he later gained. And I reckon Erislandy Lara is a much improved version of that Winky Wright and presents loads of the same stylistic issues.

Simon does what Hurd did and ovetakes Lara late on the cards to win a decision.

I'm disappointed that we never got to see Caenlo beat the absolute crap out of Simon.

And even at his best, Lara could be outworked and had a style that wasn't favored by judges.
