Harry Simon appears to have a decent record and by all accounts comfortably beat down Winky about 10 years ago. His career has pretty much been ruined by two jail terms for deaths caused in car accidents - I recall being interested when he was released from his first term in 2007 but it seems he went back in. He's a free man now and talking of a comeback.. http://www.informante.web.na/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3846&Itemid=106 ..presumably he's too old to be relevant now but the question is how good was he in his prime and would he have been able to hang with greats at Light-Middle & Middle over the last 10yrs had he not gone down?
He didn't comfortably beat Winky, it was a very close fight, though by no means a robbery as some may claim with it being a majority decision in South Africa and all. He was a pretty good little fighter, quite exciting and could punch. You have to remember though the Winky at this time was the same Winky more or less that we saw in the Vasquez fight. He wasn't bad but certainly not the level he became. I don't think he could of beaten any of the real top guys but who knows. I believe he was supposed to fight Hopkins before the car accident that broke both his legs and landed him in jail for killing 2 tourists. In terms of his style he was a relatively high work rate and a sort of boxer-puncher.
he was good but would have been beat by tito vargas had he of hung around, he had a good punch but wasnt very slick
He didn't comfortably beat Wright.... Simon was very good and he probably could have gone on to become something quite special. Very good workrate and seemed to have a solid enough chin.
Simon was potentially very good. He had agreat fight with Winky, edged it. Didn't have the problems that Vargas and Tito had with Winky. I got the impression he went off the rails, stopped listening to his trainer. Hehad some good stoppages of Brits Wayne Alexander and Kevin Lueshing, but he was atrocious v that tall southpaw guy who beat Margarito. Someone Jones -Rodney Jones? Simon looked crap vs him on Showtime and so it looked like he would just go on with the WBO title fights pretending he was being ducked by Roy Jones etc.
very special. had decent handspeed had a good workrate and a solid jab and fundamentals also could punch with both hands. could do alot of everything. wasnt great on the backfoot but could get by. would of got beaten by hopkins and tito...i think he could of outhustled vargas and some other top10ers
