Harry Wills knocks down Luis Firpo

Great performance by Wills in dominating a very highly ranked contender.

The way he totally nullifies his offence is imprestive.

Always reminded me of a slightly better John Ruiz.

Would be a top ten mainstay in any era.

 

It was a poor performance by Wills, he was fighting a bloated Firpo. The KD was a foul hitting on the break. Firpo, said Wills was more wrestler than a fighter.

 

Not sure what the referee was thinking. Surely that's called hitting on the break. I guess it was allowed, so he allowed it.

 

No ,it wasn't allowed,Firpo had sacked his trainer to save money and wasn't in any sort of shape.

 

Yeah like most people say, a very controlling dominant performance.

 

Ridiculous holding and wrestling by Wills. I can't pretend to be impressed. But it is only limited footage, and the man was over-the-hill by then.
I can't imagine he was ever in the same class as Jack Johnson though.

 

That is a foul. And if you read up on Wills it was a move he used often.

There are other films of Wills that were shown here. He doesn't look impressive. A big man with some power, but not very skilled.

 

As ever one says he looks very good here, like a better version of John Ruiz.

 

Making allowances for his age, he doesn't look like a fighter who has the style to beat Dempsey,imo

 

It looked like a foul to me.

Wills was dsq'd 3 times
