Dempsey had 69 fights ,Dougherty refereed just 2 of them ,one was a clear decision win for Dempsey, the other was an easy ko win.
Allegations blown completely out of the water!!!!

You've never required proof in order to make allegations before , "I read in a magazine or, I was told, and I'm only repeating what I heard ," has always been more than enough for you .

I'm sure you don't need proof before smearing Dempsey yet again Seamusdoza.

Let's not pretend that you don't hate Dempsey's guts and haven't regularly accused him of just about everything you can think of, including breaking in virgins in white slaver brothels , pimping, and living, off his wife, and draft dodging all of which charges where slung out of court btw.
Bottom line ,you take every opportunity to smear and disparage Dempsey's name.
Apart from the fact that you've never provided any evidence for your charges ,the relentless attacks on a long dead man who cannot defend himself leaves a decidedly nasty taste in the mouth.

And yourself irreparably diminished in both standing and credibility as a poster.

It's akin to writing personal graffiti about someone on a toilet wall and just about as classy.

I have a vision, it's you going into Dempsey's restaurant when he was still under 60 and asking him about these events to his face. It has an enjoyable and gratifying conclusion, that ends with you comatose ,being dragged out by your heels.

Dempsey won 12 of the 15rds against Gibbons. And he helped him back in the ring whenhe nearly fell out ofit trying to avoid Dempsey's punches Gibbons concentrated on going the distance he clinched at every opportunity and didn't try to win.

This report says it was a right under the heart that finished Miske.

This says a right to the chin finished the fight.

This has a different slant on it than you.
    No surprise there!

Was it a foul though ?
Had an agreement been made whereby rabbit punches were prohibited ?

"Jack Dempsey is a bum sport.... He got behind helpless Bill Miske the other day and knocked him cold... The knockout blow that put Miske to sleep was one of the most cowardly blows I have ever seen. And it doesn't lessen the offense that Jack Dempsey's personal referee didn't want to prevent that blow."

H.C. Walker, Detroit Times, ringside observer.

According to Clay Moyle, who wrote a book on Miske, Dempsey finished him a punch to the back of the head, as Miske was facing the other way, witless, having just taken a 9 count.

"Miske's back was turned towards the champion when he received the final blow that ended the fight. Instead of being between them, Referee Dougherty was in corner of the ring... It was sickening to see a man stricken down without seeing the blow coming that sent him into dreamland."

Greb was also a well known dirty fighter. Fleischer wrote that he held and hit in every bout he ever fought.

Shamless, is this the complete article? If the foul was as blatant as this writer claims how come he is the only one who reported it, hmmmm?! Another smoking gun gone pffff! Every article on the fight I read says it was a right to the chin that was the knock out blow. You know shamless everybody knows you hate Dempsey and are always on the lookout for something negative about Dempsey. Keep on digging in the cesspool of your mind. Again this is about Wills, not Dempsey, start your own thread about hating Dempsey, I know it's hard when a turd is clogging up your thinking apparatus take your time.

Shamless, this was a big fight at the time, it was covered extensively. If such a blow was a foul as you say and your granpa, it would have been a major story.

    Here are some opposing views:

The Seattle star. (Seattle, Wash.), September 07, 1920, Page 10, Image 10

The Morning Tulsa daily world. (Tulsa, Okla.), September 07, 1920, FINAL EDITION, Page 9, Image 9

The Bridgeport times and evening farmer. (Bridgeport, Conn.), September 07, 1920, Page PAGE FOUR, Image 4

The Lake County times. (Hammond, Ind.), September 07, 1920, Image 9

Arizona republican. (Phoenix, Ariz.), September 16, 1920, Page PAGE NINE, Image 9

The Bismarck tribune. (Bismarck, N.D.), September 10, 1920, Image 6

Evening public ledger. (Philadelphia [Pa.]), September 07, 1920, NIGHT EXTRA, Page 18, Image 18

The Rock Island Argus and daily union. (Rock Island, Ill.), September 07, 1920, Image 11

Read those, not one mentioned this outrageous foul. All said it was a clean right to the jaw.

The Walker article is in Moyle's "The St Paul Thunderbolt". The Wyoming State Tribune article is behind a subscription wall.

If you don't believe, fine. I think I'll be able to sleep at night.
