Dempsey was wound up tight, good to know he was mortal afterall. I wonder if this was his normal behavior before a fight?
Fighters all act different when it’s time.
Wow, the drama behind the scene, with rumors flying around that Dempsey had his own referee, if such a foul as described by the writer had occurred. I am only guessing that it would've made some kind of noise.
Dempsey’s own ref was already under suspicion that something was up.
Great find, eventhough it makes Dempsey sound crazy, I think of the fire that forged the fury. As many times as he had been scre wed in his career, I would be paranoid also. Dempsey put it well at the end. Enjoyed it, thank you

Found something else, an interesting article "Fighter's nerves at high tension" by Tad

The Bridgeport times and evening farmer., June 30, 1921, Page Page Six, Image 6,

    Dempsey Nerve Strung.
Jack Kearns had Billy Miske crazy
for nerves. They get him too. The
night before he boxed Brennan he
went into the bathroom to wash his
    hands. He carefully reached up.
turned on an extra light thinking it
was the faucet and then proceeded to
wash his hands with air. He yelled
to Teddy Hayes telling him the water
was turned off. His mind was Brennan too much.

I haven't seen anything reliable yet to prove rabbit punches were barred in the Dempsey-Miske fight.
And I've noticed some of the reports don't describe the finishing blow as a punch to the back of the head at all.

I think the final blow in the Brennan fight was probably a rabbit punch though. But again, was it illegal?
