I don't think either Ed or I give any importance to who was top of the bill but it was nice to see the poster. Thanks for posting it.

When I finish playing silly b*ggers with Doza, I might start a thread asking for the definition of the term journeyman.:fight

And as you can see there are many definitions to what is a journeyman.

    In this particular case

    Someone who responds
    to every post you make
reiterating the same thing over and over.

I don't consider a fighter who is ranked for a decade a journeyman, that is a contradiction in terms as far as I am concerned.

It might be but if Ray Arcel said it, he knows better then both of us. Everybody gets off on journeyman like it's a bad word, it isn't. In Wills case he wasn't exceptional in any one thing, he was good all around. For instance take the other Harry, you could refer to his exceptional speed, or his ability to beat bigger guys. Now I know this will start another row, but what was Wills' best attribute? His power, his strength, his skill what? From what I have read and seen nothing stands out, his power if anything.

Fair enough, if the person arguing comes back over and over I respond over and over. I usually respond to anything directed at me. It takes two to tango as the saying goes.

As long as you are prepared to apply this across the board, i'm fine with it. As long as accepting all things said by all people more qualified than you to determine what is right in boxing as some form of truth to be accepted, I think it's reasonable. This done mean that your position is that Dempsey should have matched Wills though, as Langford said so.

I think Wills looks pretty underwhelming on film ,even allowing for his age.I think Dempsey would have taken him out, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't have gotten his shot or that he wasn't qualified to get it. Ray Arcel may have had a different definition of the word.

Oh, yes I will be a good boy.
Let me address your comments one by one.

I am not looking for your approval. I don't cuss, I don't come on here to discuss and argue whatever point.

You are assuming that people are more qualified than me please explain how so. Since you know so little about me.
What is so reasonable about what you are saying, please explain?

    Huh?

Say what it is whatever the agenda is.

    "Arcel said it"

He was quoted as saying it. My point was that the quote is from Roger Kahn and he doesn't say where he got it.

But also, now, with the quotes put up that fighters like Frazier and Foreman were being described as journeymen in the 1970's, the term means nothing.

I am quite willing to put Wills in the same general class as Frazier and Foreman.

So, Harry Wills vs Tommy Gibbons, eh. Are we talking a specific year or with both men in their primes? Been so long since the proposal was posed I've forgotten. I'd have to go with Wills. Gibbons was an excellent boxer and he beat a lot of big guys but I don't think he had the power in his fists to hurt the Brown Panther. Where's a good boxing computer sim when you need one?
