And what's worse is that there is no reason to assume it'll change. It may verry well be like this for a long time.
No, 2020 was way worse. I think 2021 was also worse but that's borderline. Definitely some disappointments in there but some great moments too. Who thought Canelo could lose a decision to Bivol? One of the HW champions fought twice in the same year (very rare!) and we got several undisputed fights.
Absolutely not. We've entered an era we're unifications seem more common than ever. Don't get me wrong, boxing is still miles behind UFC but it's becoming clearer who the champ in every division is.
There were a few big fights but in general inactivity seems to be the name of the game for modern boxers. Fighting once a year now is as common as it is ridiculous.
It would have been better if more of the higher rated boxers had been more active. Many fought just once. Too much potential is being wasted. Also there were too many fights where privileged weight bullies faced men from smaller weight divisions. And as always, there was too much home judging and refereeing, especially in the US and UK. Dishonest officiating damages the sport of boxing. However, there were some fine moments, for example Bivol showed excellent skills in his wins over Canelo and Ramirez. Inoue was great as always. Usyk's last few rounds against Joshua were amazing. I hope the promoters and managers keep their boxers MORE ACTIVE in 2023.
There has been worse certainly regarding the heavyweight world title, both Dempsey and Corbett did not defend it for a 3yr stretch, Bob Fitzsimmons and Jack Johnson 2 yrs.
No! Great year for American boxing. Spence Benavidez Haney undisputed Shakur Plant Bam Fulton unified Tank Charlo undisputed Shields undisputed Crawford Fundora Regis Ortiz jr Ennis And many more all winners
