No way to know exactly how hard these guys trained.

Reports of so and so doing exactly this many rounds sparring, this many miles of roadwork, etc...can be inaccurate or just complete bull**** anyway.

    - I can imagine Hopkins studying VHS/DVD/YouTube clips
    - With his pen and paper jotting down literally millions of notes
    - That's another form of hard work
    - I never did that for Karrate - no wonder the teacher hated my guts
    - I just loved the sparring

I imagine that Eastern block fighters like Kostya Tszyu and Vasilly Jirov trained like demons for years.
Both came from communist systems where as amateurs boxing quickly became a full time job and extremely strict training protocols were expected.

I know both carried these methods well into the pro ranks

Hagler was known for being cloisted in camp like a warrior monk - locking himself away in isolation for weeks on end .

Marciano is meant to be the hardest training champ in history - between mammoth training sessions he would relax by wading in a swimming pool and throwing uppercuts under water to build his power and leverage
