Has a Mayweather fight even come clost to being FOTY?

You make it sound like it is only me thinking he is not exciting. I understand you gotta stand by your Bro because he is the same color you are but come on. You cant honestly say a PBF fight is going to keep you at the edge of your seat. There is a reason he has to have a mouth on him. To sell tickets. Luckily for him we are a reality TV generation and that is what sells his fights.

The most nervous I get doing anything is watching a Mayweather fight. The last time I wasnt nervous during a Mayweather fight was when he fought Marquez, when mostly I was just hoping that Marquez would conduct himself like a champion, maintain his dignity which he did and not give up which he didnt.

Mayweather fights are sold because of his skills. He talks and he can back it up in the ring. If just talking sufficed then everyone would do it.

He's the biggest star in a sport that isn't as popular as it used to be. Popularity is more than just PPV buys, considering that PPVs didn't become a widespread thing until 20 years ago. A truly transcendent figure goes beyond their sport. Dancing with the Stars and a little WWE event don't exactly make him "crossover". He gets little mainstream attention except for when he says something racist or when they're bugging him about Pacquiao. He has few endorsement deals. He's simply not that popular in the grand scheme of things.

I do think more people see him because he's the "bad guy" than because he's fun to watch or because they admire his skill. Not a lot of laypeople can really admire what Mayweather does that sets him apart. They're tuning in because they want to see if a hero will rise up and shut him up. And he makes a great living doing it, as long as nobody actually shuts him up.

 

He consistently shatters records at the box office. No going far about it. There is nobody in boxing history post 1950's who do the same numbers Mayweather does besides Ali, Oscar, Pacquiao and Leonard.

He gets little mainstream attention because boxers only fight twice a year, whereas in most other sports, there's a game every week or a brief offseason followed by 3 straight months of games.

Whenever there is a Mayweather fight its an event. When Charles Barkely is on TNT supposed to be discussing a basketball game, and all he can say is "Im really thinking about Mayweather vs Mosley right now" it shows how big he is.

In terms of the white media, he isnt as popular, thus why he's done dancing with the stars, and the like, but ask any Mexican or Black American and he's a household name.

Nonsense. I showed my mother Mayweather's fight with Mosley, and she was impressed commenting that he fought like a robot, even though she wouldnt be able to tell you what a jab was.

Like I said, if being a bad guy sold fights then there would be a bunch more Pay Per View stars then just Mayweather.

 

I didn't say he didn't have any fans, of course he does have people like you that follow his every move, but again the majority of people tuning into his fights want to see him lose. His team isn't stupid either, they are great at marketing. The fact is Mayweather is usually more exciting outside of the ring than in it. Leading up to fight, the way he talks and carries himself, you would think he was going to go in the ring and beat the **** out of the dude, but when it comes down to it, he just pot shots his way to another decision.

Again, before you get your panties in a bundle, Floyd is very skilled, but he isn't exciting.
