I think Joshua's actually seen a lot more improvements in his overall movement compared to earlier in his career, though I agree he'll never look truly fluid. A bit odd considering so many people seem to rate his overall athleticism.
Whilst I was expecting a different type of fight, this was a boxing lesson. AJ boxed differently targeting the body and just hiding behind his prominent jab. If it goes to a war AJ goes to war but if he needs to box he can box and keep the range. Overall was a good but not excellent performance. Problem with Modern day boxing is if you don’t KO your opponent it’s not entertaining or a great performance. People have to remember there is more than one way to win a fight
For sure Joshua's dropped and Parker's went up. However AJ may be one of those fighters that looks easier to beat until your in with him. I think alot of fighters watch him and they think they can see weakness and a way to win, but when they're in there the view is different.
He looked VERY bad, like a lesser version of Wlad. I had Wlad outboxing him in the first fight until he got knocked out. Joshua can't box. He needs to just go ahead and steal Wlad's style because that's the only way he can remain a force at heavyweight. He can't take it to the body, so inside fighting is out of the question. He needs to just learn how to clinch and fight scared because he will get the **** beat outta him, if he fights Miller. Miller will KILL Joshua to the body.
He showed in this fight that he can't properly cut off the ring, he did little to no adjustments throughout the whole fight, he didn't change angles, timings and threw the same punches over and over to the point where Parker was able to parry or throw his own jab over Josh's jab because Joshua didn't adjust in anyway. He also moves in straight lines with no lateral movement and clinches every time Parker got inside. Clinching here and there is okay, but when boxers use it purely to avoid fighting on the inside throughout the fight they should be warned and later penalized. Klit vs Povetkin was one of the most appalling performances I have ever seen in my life from a champion, beating a fighter like Povetkin at the time it happened is huge, but the way he won it was pathetic. It's basically one fighter using his reach and outer boxing advantages whilst breaking a rule to stop the opponent from fighting at their best range. Sadly it's not enforced and certain boxers continue to abuse it. His stock rose in the stamina department. Even though he never really had to step on the gas, he came out looking fresh, with plenty left in the tank. Wilder is Wilder, he can't box, in fact a lot of his opponents were probably more skilled than he was. His fundamentals all look off, windmill mode looks hilariously ******ed, but his bizarre punching technique and absurd power gets him the win. We didn't see nothing about him we didn't already know except that he might have a better chin than we originally thought. You can't really rate Wilder's stock, because he does so many things wrong, but for him it works. This is the difference in stocks going up and down.
100% Joshua's stock dropped. He was supposed to knock this smaller guy out in front of 80,000 of his fans but failed to make a dent or even dominate him to any great extent. Poor display. This show is going to end vs Fury for sure, 100% on that. Wilder will have to get the KO which for me is 50% likely. That is a life and death fight. Fury beats Joshua comprehensively though.
AJ could fight Parker 3 More times and still not be able to stop him. Some guys you just can’t get out of there
Higgins said Parker would have beaten the Joshua that fought Tackam and i could see that.. But Parker couldn't do anything to Joshua last night and was completely defused , so i wouldn't say his stock has dropped at all. Beating Parker and collecting 4 belts can only raise your stock , not decrease it.
Yeah, I would agree about his pacing and mixing it up effectively. Again though, that perhaps would be the difference between him winning rather comfortably in his last two fights, and him getting them out of there. The Wlad fight was completely different, as he was against someone that could outbox him, so we saw lots of deficiencies in Joshua’s game as a result. Last night reminded me very much of Wlad vs Haye, in that Parker was a smaller, tricky fighter, resulting in Joshua not being able to get off his big shots. From that point of view, yes, Joshua has shown that he struggles to impose his explosive game.
Exactly this. Watch Klitschko vs Haye and compare the footspeed of Wlad and AJ going backwards when pressured. AJ may be the man to perfect the great Klitschko tactica to its full potential. Furthermore: upgrading the blueprint with even more devastating tools for the work. Escpicially by a vastly improved inside game offensively speaking. That killer uppercut he always looks for instead of clinching is a real pleasure to the eye. Joshua is basically a more aggressive and entertaining version of Klitschko but with a better inside game.
He handled movement pretty well & beat takam & parker easily both smaller & faster HWs than the furys Hughie didnt beat parker or barely beat him if you feel he won & that was pre surgery & a heavier parker im not sure why your mentioning him Tyson has 1 good win vs a very timid obviously unprepared wlad & fury still barely touched him with anything significant Joshua put more consistent leather on a always very hard to hit but very motivated & way better version of wlad I get it fury is very nimble & fast for his size & can very well outbox & outmanuver joshua But hes not getting in AJs head like he did with wlad Joshua has a way better resume & has beaten half the now top 10 to top 15 in just 21 fights & has 4 belts Whats crazy is that ortiz who was 38 with high blood pressure problems & had looked extremely flat in his last 4 outtings before fighting wilder but showed up in better shape & gave wilder a tough fight & somehow him & wilders stock rises But parker who many claimed was being underestimated & was also coming off some flat performances himself but vs undefeated contenders & not stepping stones comes in in better shape & off surgery to fix his elbows gives joshua a not so easy fight what many thought he would do & joshua tactically beats him with the jab hardly gets hit but somehow his stock drops smh Many always criticized wlad for being robotic & stiff but he dominated for a decade its not just about floating like a butterfly & stinging like bee
That's good. Now the devastating bronze bomber has a better knockout ratio than the bodybuilder. Balance has been restored in the universe.
There’s some truth in that. As a boxer, Joshua’s stock is rising, but as a brand (Hearn called him a brand) there are other expectations of him that need to appeal to the masses, namely his entertainment factor in the ring.
