Has Andre Ward Retired?

It's too much mumbo jumbo about race at ESB lately. Ward is a top profile in the sport. He will be critizised just as the Klitschkos, Pac or who ever. If you dont like it just log off.

 

Ward was willing to fight Kessler, but not Bute or Dirrell :huh

Why is that? He's already beat Kessler? Fight him AGAIN, but not Bute, or Dirrell?!

I'm a critic of all boxers, just like I'm a fan of all boxers. . I'm a fan of BOXING first, and boxers second. . . It's "fans" like you, who defend these guys blindly, who are bringing down the sport by enabling them to not fight the best on a regular basis. . . Just like friends of drug addicts - you're an enabler - you THINK you're helping them, but really you're just hurting the sport. . . :nono

Oh yeah - I've criticized Bute PLENTY. . . But to his credit, he actually did try to fight Kessler, and Pavlik rather than Johnson, but they both pulled out, citing various money issues, etc. . . Basically they ducked him. . . Just like Ward is doing now! But yes, Bute should have fought somebody better than Johnson. . .

Lol, and stop acting like "we're mad" because Ward is number one SMW. . YES, HE IS! And that's why he should fight the second best SMW in the world!

Ok, so he fought Kessler in 2009. . . He fought Froch at the end of 2011. . Who did he fight in between? About the same level of guys at Bute fought. . .

Now that he beat Froch, and won the tournament, you think he should just kick back, and act like he's "cleaned out" the division? When the second best guy is offering to come to your back yard to fight you?

Im not criticizing Ward as a boxer, I'm criticizing his choice to avoid Dirrell, and especially Bute. . .

I don't attack fighters, I attack IDEAS, and DECISIONS. . .

Sorry, I'm a fna of boxing, and call me crazy, but I want to see the best consistently fight the best. . .

 

Imperial - If Ward refuses to fight Bute after (IF) he beats Froch, what will you then say?

Is this just a "one fight" type of deal? Or you think he should have the right not to fight Bute for the rest of the year, or longer?

 

If you want to see the best fight the best than how can you knock Ward yet support Bute up until this point ?

Bute has been champ longer than Ward yet he is just now steppting up ?

And again how did he avoid Dirrel when he pulled out the tourney ? See this is the lies im talking about ! You want to fault Ward when Dirrell was the one that pulled out due to an unknow injury !:bart

 

If you were a real boxing fan, you'd know there was more than one Dirrell. . . And that "other" Dirrell happens to be Ward's mandatory. . .

Who said I've supported Bute up to this point? I used to mad trash talk him for fighting guys like he did. . . I always thought BUTE WOULD BE THE ONE ducking the winner of the super 6, not hte other way around. . . I do know that Bute (actually to his credit) was trying to fight Kessler, and Pavlik - but both REFUSED to fight him. . . So he fought Johnson - which I criticized him for as well, because I still think he could have found somebody better. .

Can I not support Ward, and criticize him at the same time? That's what BOXING fans do. . .

 

at this point ward is depriving his fans and that's no good for an American boxer... they don't have many fans to begin with

he should have kept the momentum going and just taken a tune-up fight.. wouldn't have mattered who he fought

hope he signs for a fight soon

 

Im sure Ward plans on unifying the titles he already has 2/3rds of that ..iTs only a matter of time before he faces the last belt holder ..He unlike anyone else has put in the work to reach that goal ..How do you not recognize this ?

Oh and the only Dirrell worth fighting is the Matrix not the his younger borther ..Come on now ..

 

Very interesting thread. After Ward's major accomplishment of winning the Super Six Tourney, I think he deserves time off too heal his injured hand. There is no sense in rushing back and fighting a dangerous opponent like Bute before he is 100%. Ward is at the top of the SMW mountain, fighters like Bute and Dirrell will still have to come through him if they want to be considered the best. Regardless of how long he takes to return.
