The underlined part is ambiguous (even more than Ward's statements). Andre Ward expressed his feelings with respect to the mandatory challenger: it is obvious he would like to find a way not to meet him in the ring. That does not mean he assuredly won't face Anthony Dirrell if he won't find such a way: I remind here that Ward said something about his mission to get them [i.e. the major belts] all, vacating his WBC belt would be inconsistent with his declared goal.

At IBF he is already #1 contender, and if Bute beats Froch, Adonis should be the next mandatory. For winning the belt (either vacated or kept) he should face just one fighter.

As for Froch becoming Ward's mandatory if he loses, it seems very unlikely. Not only would he not ''deserve'' it (coming off 2 losses), the crooked WBC would have no reason to do it (the networks won't be interested by such a rematch).

Also, Ward may have said he wants all the belts, but he said he has become a ''network fighter''.
