Has any boxer ever died from body blow trauma?

That it does. Freddie Miller was rumored to have killed Baby Oriental with a body shot, but apparently that didn't happen.

Pissing blood is a far cry from dying, and hopefully is of very short duration.

Long-term pain is likely due to "Trigger points" being created from the body blows.

Every boxer or MMAer should learn about Trigger Point corrections, either manually or with injections of numbing agents.

Fernando Montiel killed some guy named Alcazar, he finished the fight with a body shot but the guy died of a brain hemorhage so the fatal damage was probably done before the coup de grace shot to the liver. The guy didn't slip in the coma until he was back in his hotel room anyways.

I've heard Jose Luis Castillo damaged a number of guys with body shots. Not killing a guy for sure but I've heard confirmation that Cesar Bazan, Chicago Corrales, Julio Diaz, Juan Lazcano, Casamayor, and Stevie Johnston all urinated blood after their fights with Castillo. No surprise, the guy was a body punching demon.

 

He had been diagnosed with Appendicitis a few days before and his appendix bursting a few days after the incident is what killed him, not the actual blows.

 

Pedro Alcazar appeared to have recovered the next day, and actually took a ride in a local amusement part. I read in an article by Dr. Margaret Goodman that the process of getting tossed about during this ride may have exacerbated any existing trauma, and been just as much, if not more of a factor than Montiel's punches themselves.

yes, i was at this fight. it was on the undercard of the second morales-barrera fight. alcazar was stopped on body shots in the 6th. the next day alcazar, who hadn't been to vegas before, went sightseeing with his trainer and promoter i believe. i remember fightnews showed the pics. the following morning, alcazar was found dead in his hotel room from a brain hemorrhage. i was living in vegas at the time and couldn't believe that happened. it was a day and a half after the fight and he really showed no signs of being in danger.

 

Thankfully not.

 

Back in the early bare-knuckle days, a fight sometimes didn't end until the loser had literally been beaten to a pulp - and as a result deaths caused by internal bleeding, a ruptured spleen, lung and kidney injuries, etc. weren't that uncommon.


But even in the more "civilised" gloved era, there have been several ring deaths, caused by blows to the body.
