Has any boxer ever gotten more credibility for defeating recently beaten fighters...?

    Notice I said 135, 140, 147, 154? 126 and 130 - unquestionably, he did the business there.

Pac beat Marquez at 130, not 135.
Pac beat Hatton at 140 for the IBO trinket, he wasn't "the man" at 140 having vacated titles to go up to 147 to lose to Floyd. By this stage, Bradley was "the man" at 140.

The "man" at 147 is Floyd and will forever be Floyd until someone beats him there or he retires properly.

The man at 154 is Martinez, not Cotto. He also beat Cotto at a catch weight, not a real weight.

So, like I said, he hasn't beaten "the man" at 135, 140, 147 or 154.

If you feel this way then once he beats marquez the follow up win will silence people who feel the same I think, its either floyd/ortiz winner or bradley. hatton was the man at 140 by the way:p

Pacquiao will get no credit at all for beating Bradley, none.

    Don't be silly.

The man at 135 is jmm, pac has beat him.

Hatton was clearly the man at 140, a claim he underlined by beating the second best lww in paulie, pac beat him.

Floyd retired and has been inactive. The highest ranked ww is pac.

The highest ranked lmw is cotto, pac beat him.

what you meant by recent is since when? ok let's compare floyd and pac's recent achivements for the last 3 years.

    floyd:
    juan marquez
    shane mosley

    pacquiao:
    delahoya
    hatton
    cotto
    clottey
    margarito
    mosley

tell me which of the two have accomplished more? the cotto win alone surpasses anyhting floyd has done fro the last 3 years and you still think that floyd has the better recent accomplishment?

Pac's recent career is a well-managed joke and only casual fans and pinoys are impressed. Even David Diaz was considered the weakest belt-holder at the time which is precisely why Pac picked him. It's all been hype since then. He's probably legitimately a HOF/P4P fighter, but since he hasn't fought the best in so many years, we'll never really know unless he beats Floyd or Sergio.

Recent being last 5 fights, rather than years.
Floyd only fights once a year, if that.

But you're still missing the point, don't turn this into a Floyd Mayweather Jr thread. Take the example of Hopkins or Wlad if you must.

This cherrypicking stuff only started after he fought margarito and mosley, before that it was never an issue because he basically fought good opponents, I wish he would have fought marquez and berto instead of margarito and mosley then this wouldnt be an issue.

It's the same issue I have with Floyd that I have with Pacquaio - Pacquaio from 122-130 arguably beat every fighter you could expect him to beat, Floyd did the same from 130-135.

But from 135 up for Pacquaio and 140 up for Mayweather Jr? They've not been facing the best out there in my view.

Just to reitterate about pac's timeline and who the highest ranked in the division were/are:

135: jmm, pac just beat him

140: hatton, pac did beat him

    147: pac himself

154: cotto, pac just beat him.

    ok then.

    floyd:

    mosley @ WW
    marquez @ WW
    hatton @ WW
    oscar @ LM
    baldomir@ WW

    pacquiao:

    mosley @ WW
    margarito @ LM
    clottey @ WW
    cotto @ WW
    hatton @ LWW

still pac's win over cotto is way better than floyd's win over mosley or delahoya.

i didn't turn it to a floyd thread, i just compared it to someone that you said in this very own thread that has a better recent accomplishment. if you don't want it to be compared to floyd, you should have ommited his name in your opening post.

ok so let's see hopkins last 5 fights
    pascal2
    pascal
    jones jr.
    ornelas
    pavlik

pavlik and pascal are good wins but i don't know about the other two.

The only fight worth criticizing is the Mosley fight.. Very bad choice of opponent who was completely undeserving and was a lose lose situation for Pac... every one else was world class at the time and were very good matchups, you can't help it that one guy is just that far above the elite level.. But usually the greatest fighters in the sport are able to do this to their opponents no matter the opposition... The man is on a different level right now, but he may be coming down soon..

The impressive thing is that Pacman is cleaning the welterweight division (Margo, Clottey, Cotto, Mosley were stil contenders). This is happening and Pac's fighting in many divisions above his best weight (126).

Try to think: Who did Roberto Duran beat at Middleweight? Iran Barkley and not many other fighters. Duran at Middleweight is like Pac at Welterweight: fighting 40 pounds over the weight class were their careers started. And Pacman has done better.
