Has any boxer ever gotten more credibility for defeating recently beaten fighters...?

He had been rehydrating to the mid 140s since the early 2000s.It's really not that impressive. He just stopped cutting weight.

Since moving up, besides Mosley which was a money fight, Pac fought the best, who proved themselves against the best (consequently when the best fight the best, defeats happen, not that hard to figure out).

Cotto, Margarito and Hatton where the most accomplished fighters from 140-147. Clottey was a top 5 welter who made every other top welter he fought look bad. They were nobody's leftovers.

And Pac destroyed them as an undersized fighter having come up from super feather/lightweight and having started at 106. Had his resume instead included hyped or unbeaten guys unproven at the top level like Berto, Bradley, Alexander, Ortiz it would look far much worse.

How many other former flyweight champions have had success above bantamweight?

Pac was fighting the best available guys (with the exception of Clottey), so it doesn't matter.

That's just it though man, he "did the business" at 126 and 130lbs...yet he continues to DOMINATE guys at WW? You don't think that in itself is impressive? That's why people give Pac so much credit. I mean what other featherweight cherry picks the likes of Cotto, Margarito and Clottey? Coming of losses or not...

He's clearly a great fighter, but not because he once fought at 112. Once he got in a real nutrition and training program he was well up into his natural weight which is the 140s.

    :deal.
Even through the TS has a good point..
it is almost like people has started taking this "Pac is beating much bigger men" thing for granted.. What if some random flyweight jumped to Welterweight and won a championship there?
He would rise to superstar status immediatly

Pacquiao run would have been even more impressive if he had:

    1. Beaten De La Hoya before Mayweather did
    2. Beaten Hatton before Mayweather did
    3. Beaten Cotto before Margarito did
    4. Beaten Clottey before Cotto did
    5. Beaten Margarito before Mosley did.
    6. Beaten Mosley before Mayweather did

However it is still very impressive

Ward gets a great deal of credit for beating recently beaten fighters. Americans don't complain about that.

i gave him a pass on hatton, since hatton was still young, only 1 loss and pac was still climbing up weight classes... give him a pass on the margarito fight..because people still thought manny could lose because of the huge size difference...a guy that was fighting featherweight just a few years ago taking on the most avoided and dangerous welterweight from just a few years ago...unprecedented
but the mosley fight was just worthless....and while jmm might be a good fight to watch, beating a guy that floyd schooled isnt going to do much in the public eye...not to mention, the dude is almost 38...which is unheard of at that weight
