Has any champion with nearly 40 fights ever had a resume as bad as Wilder?

Maybe it is but its worked for him. Hes a world champion with 40 wins probably hitting his peak ready to take on the top contenders. Actually think a lot more should do it the same way as long as your out fighting regularly. A lot of careers been finished before they really got started by chucking them in too deep too early.

If hes still like that the next ten fights fair enough.. but he should be starting to step it up now.

And yet nobody outside of boxing knows who he is. Not working out that well, is it?

He's holding the belt hostage, paying buttons to challengers and ducking anybody that might break his glass chin.

Not too bad really. Guys still an unbeaten world champion took no real damage with his peak years infront of him. And big fights probably just round the corner. I m in the uk...hes on the radar over here anyway...has been for a while.

Could say outside of boxing klitchko,s werent that well known either. And they reigned for years. As well as a lot of fighters...ward. garcia. Thurman. Crawford. Outside of boxing i wouldnt imagine them to be big names either. As well as the majority of boxers.

"Outside of boxing," yeah, I'd agree, only a tiny handful of boxers are known. That includes retired ones.

Of course the average joe doesn't know Wilder at all, just like the average joe never knew Klitschko, as you said.

Yeah, Nino Benvenuti's first 37 fights were against journeymen, but that was just his first two years as a fighter. He didn't even get a shot at the title until he was 4 years and 57 fights in, at the age of 27. Wilder is taking things a little slower.

He never set foot in Russia because he knew his ass was going to be toast. The Meldonium BS was perfect for him.

Mayweather and Pacquiao got belts and started fighting killers when they were twenty. Wilder is 31. What's he waiting for?

Eh. People could make the same case for a respected guy like Golovkin too.

The Klitchsko's werent American, though. They were very well known in Eastern Europe. Ward isn't knows because he's boring and also heavyweights still hold sway in terms of recognition.
