Wait till Calzaghe is eligible for the HOF. If he doesn't get in then I'm not sure of any other eligible long term WBO holders

But eventually, he also won the other 3 major belts at 168 and moved up to 175 to win the Ring title there. If he would have been content to just ride off into the sunset sitting on his WBO belt, he wouldn't be as highly regarded.

Not 100% sure if the TS was wondering about strictly long term WBO champs, just saying.

:deal If he only held WBO he would not deserve but he unified 168 so he will be in.

Hasn't really been around long enough. you gotta be retired 5 years. So it only has 20 years of history and I'm not sure how many of those years had long term champs.

    Calzaghe will get in certainly.

    I don't.

But if not for blatant US bias among the voters, Dariusz Michalszewski would have been in. He absolutely deserved it.

Next year Joe Calaghe will get in though.

Calzaghe, Wlad and Ivan Calderon are all in with a good chance of getting in I reckon. It was a stepping stone belt up to about 2000, most people dropped it when the chance for something better came up, or didn't fight for it at all. It made up part of Hopkins undisputed title at middleweight though he didn't add it until a few years after the others, I don't think he had it much more than a year.

the wbo started in '88 or '89 and they weren't recognized as one of the major belts until the turn of the millennium so they haven't been around long enough and didn't usually have top fighters as their champs. calzaghe will be the first to get in and then the kilts should both follow.

However when you think about it, he was really the linear champion who won it from Virgil Hill, all the titles just got stripped and he settled for the WBO variety.

So he was already something even before he got the WBO belt.
