Although we’ve yet to find a notable centenarian those ages already listed are reasonably close, so much so as to suggest that it was mere happenstance that they didn’t make 100 (still no mean age), their being boxers not necessarily related to their not cracking the big 100. Cavemen didn’t live to 95? Well hello, didn’t we watch The Flintstones? Obviously, the dinosaurs suppressed the life expectancy back in those days. Duck out to simply check the mail then, GULP, you were gone in 2 seconds.
Haha! And to think all our posties ( mailmen to my American brothers n sisters) have to worry about now is having their fingers chewed off by a hungry hound.
Well when I tried to find out, you could be mistaken for thinking he's still alive. Born 1926 and that's it.
I learned on this forum that Sonny Liston was 40 years old when he fought Floyd Patterson the second time but he was in his mid-80s when he fought Ali in his next fight seven months later.
By the time he suffered his only legitimate ko loss to Leotis Martin he was 132 years old but still younger than Archie Moore was when he won the light heavyweight title
You’re only as old as the woman you feel. So, Sonny was born in 1925, just like his wife Geraldine. Not this particular Geraldine (Jones) though - she was more into Muhammad Ali it seems:- This content is protected
Yes they were! I thought he would make it! He probably came the closest to date. To the best of my knowledge, Billy Fox is still alive at 96 years old.
This content is protected Age at death, top heavyweights by decade. Correction. Roy Harris is still alive, 89.
You made an innocent mistake-true, Moore was 173 when, years before he should have ascended, he became champion. But you mixed up the dates for Liston-he was 332,332 years old when he was finally vanquished by Martin. Understandable error, they only confirmed that the oldest homo sapiens could have been in that range in the relatively recent past, hard to absorb The Full Truth.
On the other hand after age correction, experts have found out that Floyd Patterson was only 5 when he beat the 197 year old Archie Moore. Nat Fleischer who himself lived to 2467 years of age always thought Patterson was younger than Cus D'amato claimed.
Makes sense! It must be that Floyd had the mythic accelerated aging syndrome, the version that grows you up really soon, then ages you normally after 5. Youngest HW champion indeed. Tyson could never touch the real record.
Again, Billy Fox is not alive. Id bet cold hard cash on it. He was already in and out of insane asylums as early as 1959 or 1960. He was pumch drunk by the late 80s and had been destitute. It would be a miracle of medical science for a poor person living on the fringes of society with progressive pugilistic dementia to survive 60 years past being institutionalized or 40 years past the last time anyone heard from him. Just because his death wasnt recorded by google or boxrec doesnt mean he is alive. The both had Joey LaMotta dying in 1995 until he actually passed away about a year or two ago at 95 after living in quiet retirement for decades in Florida. Some guys just fly under the radar.
