I know this threads a little late but i remember in his Gesta fight Lampley said he fought Canelo close in the first fight and some newspaper in Mexico thought Vazquez took it on boxrec it has the 2nd fight as a UD but doesnt show scorecards, has anybody seen it and can give a description of the fight Was Canelo just too green in fight 1 and improved? was it just Vazquez has a nightmare style to try and tackle?
Vasquez could probably beat most fighters around his weight class. His style is just very difficult to look good against and it is effective as hell. I think he could move up to 140 and pick up a title there as well.
Id like to see how Broner would approach Miguel's consistent strategy of dominating the fight his Gesta fight is kind of the definition of ring generalship, i wanna see if Broner could break his routine and force a fight or disrupt the jab and get out strategy
My guess is Broner will want to focus to the body like he did with Escobedo. Straight right hands and jabs directly to the body. He would eat some leather doing it but Vasquez is not a huge puncher so he can take that risk. If he puts enough in the bank in the first 6 rounds the fight is won. If not then Vasquez outboxes him for 12 rounds.
What Boxrec also shows in the 2nd fight is that Vasquez moves up 10lbs to take on Canelo, loses a UD, then goes back down in to 140lbs, and a year later moves down to 135lbs! So one can argue that his only legitimate loss was to Timothy Bradley.
Yea both were coming up as was Bradley. Even in his losses Vasquez was very competitive and some say he deserved a nod over Alvarez in one of those fights. They could have been undercards most likely why they don't get mentioned much. Titere was doing something similar to Williams going up and down in weight because he has the frame to compete from 135-147, 3 divisions at the sametime if he probably wanted to. His lead right hand is one of the best in the game. One of the few that might actually outbox Broner or Gamboa with his herky jerky style. Maybe not a ko artist, but he hits hard enough to keep opponents humble. Mercito found that out real quick.
i think he could beat a few people at 140 but would get robbed, his style is so borin but its works for him
Vasquez called out Broner the day after his Gesta victory. He said he is ready to take on Broner and would love that fight.
I prefer his style over huggers though, he moves around to set up his offense and is always working, he throws a lot as well.
He is so anti-Mexican though... But yes that style is better than negative huggers. I actually enjoy Molina who people label as a hugger but he works alot inside.
I have seen both those fights and the one against Bradley and have to say that in my opinion Canelo has never beat him and that fight with Bradley was closer than the official decision. Miguel personally believes he has not lost to Canelo ever. He used to get angry when people mentioned Canelo's name but his trainer/manager Capetillo told him he needed to move on and focus on his own career. The result of which he has dominated all his opponents since Prescott, Kim, Dominguez, Zappavigna, Attah, Quintero, and Gesta.
There's no footage available of the Canelo-Vazquez fights, which is understandable since both were pretty green and unknown at that point, whoever says he watched those fights is lying unless he watched them live According to rumours from people who (allegedly) were present, both matches were close, Canelo won both, but word is the ginger was holding a huge weight advantage over Titere
I have seen the video the first fight was with a camcorder and the footage was not pro. The second fight was televised in Mexico nationally. In both fights Canelo struggled to land back then Miguel was trained by his father who in the ring is his primary trainer though Capetillo is his main trainer. I was part of Team Vazquez camp for his fight with Zappavigna. I have served as his translator and publicist.
