Just wondering if anyone on ESB has ever boxed before either as an amateur or a pro? I used to box as a junior and once won a junior competition when I was 16 but gave it up when I moved out of North London, It takes balls to put the gloves on and I respect anyone that has had that experience.
Me, no, my brother did got knocked out in his 3rd fight. I also went to school with Jason Estrada who is about to fight Povetkin.
Yes he was, he was a senior in highschool when he did the trial and that was in 01 or 02. He was considered a very good prospect, because of his quick hands. One of the most cocky mother****ers I ever met mind you and when I saw him in his first match in the olympics I was like, "shyt man you let yourself go, you were 205 and now fighting at 255". He got lazy from when I intially saw him, but from what people tell me, he's got restored passion.
Teddy Atlas was bad mouthing him the whole time, it was due to his disappointment, because so many people expected quite alot of big things from him. I remember Atlas saying that his being out of shape was a disgrace to the Olympics and the only reason he is getting through is because of his fast hands.
did a bit of amatuer stuff back in the mid 80's...nothing worth talking about really...9 bouts, but 3 were exhibition things..no desicions, just sparring really...then won 3 and lost 3...then on to southern comfort and ladies..and that was that.
I used to train and spar but no actual bouts im afraid. Always wish I could have had a few real fights but im getting on a bit now and just dont have the time anymore! Meeeew.
