Has anyone changed the mind about Khan after this weekend??

i thought khan oozed class at times. some of his combination punching was beautiful to watch.
that said his defense still needs work, but if he wasn't such a billy big bollox, i would absolutely love the kid.
someone said it earlier, best prospect from these shores by a mile.

I have not really changed my mind about him, but I've at least seen something of him.
He seemed to stick to the gameplan quite nicely, and paced himself over the distance quite well, although I thought he could have put a bit more pressure on St Clair, seeing as he didn't have too much to offer other than a decent chin.
From that performance I would say he could have some good wins to look forward to, as long as he is carefully matched. From the successes (albeit not many) St Clair had, I have to come to the conclusion that a quality pressure fighter with a half decent dig would enjoy himself against Khan
I don't think his chin is his biggest problem (although it will always be a concern), I just don't believe he ever looks at ease when leather comes his way, head or body.

I must say I was relatively impressed with Amirs performance. St Clairs high guard and tight defence meant a knock out was unlikely. So Amir did the sensible thing and outworked him to a landslide victory. If I was in Amirs corner I would be quite pleased with that showing, I felt he fought to instruction and was never in any trouble during the fight.

I must say that I liked the way Amir put certain combinations together, and he showed an impressive workrate for his first twelve rounder. I think that he is moving in the right direction, with a steady rise in the level of his opposition and we must be patient with him. The next few fights will teach us more about him and perhaps more importantly allow him to learn his game.

If Ricky Hatton could defend the WBU 'title' for four years and 15 defences, then there is no rush for Khan

Via patience and skill, Khan displayed he is competent at a level we have yet to see him at. Nobody expected to see Khan blowing away world class fighters in the way he did Earl, so he needed to show some savvy - he did that.

However, out boxing a much smaller man with a low work rate still leaves many questions unanswered.

 

One person who hasn't changed their mind about Khan seems to be Gairy St clair.

Before fighting Khan he said he didn't think he would be as quick as Zab Judah or punch as hard as Kostya Tszyu (sparring partners) and he still stands by this.

According to an article on Setanta Sports since the fight he has said Khan is nothing compared to Zab Judah who is a lot quicker and Khan's power is nothing like Kostya Tszyu. Also says he has been hit harder by smaller guys than Khan.

He praised Khans movement and the fact he bided his time against him but thinks Khan should wait another 12 months before trying for a world title.

 

I wouldn't find it hugely insulting to be told I don't hit as hard as Kostya and wasn't as quick as Zab though I still think he is probably quicker then Judah just not as aggresive.

 

To answer the initial question, yes. I used to think he was pretty gung-ho, now I think he's a runner scared of having his whiskers tickled.

St Clair's sole aim, imo, was to last 12 rounds. Brilliant. I could look good against someone plodding forward pedestrian paced and not throwing hellish much leather edit: any leather

I'm sorry but St Clair was shot to ****. Khan didn't work him at all imo. Happy to take a comfortable points victory.

David Haye was slaughtered for coasting Ismail Abdoul and Khan should be to. So he went 12 rounds. So what? You could probably go 112 rounds at that pace and effort.

I didn't see him get that much stick, not from the general boxing media anyway.
Plus Haye had a hand injury, less a case of coasting than needing to fight with just the one able mitt.

 

It was obvious before the fight that Warren had done his homework on St Clair and knew he was shot and gonna be much smaller than Khan.
Warren is very good at finding these shot smaller and/or old men dressed up with a respectable name...he did it with Rikcy Hatton about 10 times.

 

No, my mind hasn't changed. Khan is still way too hyped for his own good. He's a decent fighter, but the performance against St Clair was pretty boring because he played it waaaaay too safe against a guy with no power whatsoever. St Clair is not a KO artist. He has good defence, that's all.

Khan is still pretty much untested, and I wouldn't consider the St Clair fight a good win, although it was probably better than what Kristjansen could have brought to the ring. The Earl fight wasn't a good win either because, as we all know, Earl is completely fried.

Exactly right. I'd also done my homework and I knew with 100% certainty that St Clair was useless.
