I think the fight does significantly more than 900,000 buys. There shouldn't be an issue with GBP agreeing a percentage from the total revenue. Not one person has put forward a logical reason as to why that's an unreasonable request from K2. Canelo rightly deserves a bigger percentage, but no promoter/manager on this planet accepts flat fee offers from fights of this magnitude. It's unheard of. Luckily for Oscar, there's lots of simpletons in the world who actually believe he's been genuine.
It's not a great deal. How can a flat fee offer, 12 months out, be a good deal, from a fight that could do anything between 70-80m plus? This fight will definitely clear a million PPV's easily. Nobody was hyped for Canelo-Cotto that did 900,000.
Yeah that's him,I don't think they were backing GGG nor were they having a go at Canelo,Kellerman basically mentioned the timing of it and the fact that a year away its Oscars way of getting his ridiculers of his back.
The fight probably easily clears 70-80m, but you do know the fighters don't get it all? TV companies and the cost of production and advertising will be huge, the fighters will be lucky to split 40-50 mill most likely less
Think about it. Canelo is going to get around 25 to 30 mill, GGG 10 mill, both get upside from the PPV, the rest is distributed through the promoters, the sponsors, HBO, the investors, site fees for the fight, so that's essentially where the rest of the money is going, whatever it is it generates. Canelo isn't getting close to 70 mill, 80 mill, or even 100 mill. I don't know why that always has to be brought up, like it's Canelo who's going to make that kind of money. Canelo earned his 25-30 mill guarantee, and GGG is getting the biggest payday of his career plus money from the PPV AND it's not enough. 10 mill is a substantial amount for this fight. He needs to take it, go and beat Canelo if he can, then call shots for the next fight. BUT....... They want more money which to me signifies that he's not as confident he could beat Canelo, so in the case he loses he wants to get paid substantially more because if Canelo wins there might not be a rematch= No more big 10 mill paydays anymore. It's a great deal!
Ok so what happens when they negotiate a deal and the percentage equates to 10 million dollars, would that still be a bad offer, even if it's calculated by a percentage?
But he won't make five times that. Golden Boy and the networks might - Canelo doesn't promote his own fights. I'd be willing to bet Canelo makes a lot less than $20m from the fight.
These guys grew up being told American minorities run boxing, fighters like GGG threaten their world view and the comfortable status quo they were told would never change. Speaking and treating them like reasonable adults with powers of cognition and reason is futile. You would have just as much luck convincing a religious zealot their religion is B.S.!
Same as what Manny is making,I've no idea how much it's worth but I'm sure some are thinking along the lines of Mayweather vManny kind of money which is ridiculous.
$70 PPV at 900k buys (which I think is optimistic), is $63m - half that goes to the networks. Leaves $31.5m plus around $8m in tickets and ad revenue, leaves you with less than $40m before costs. Before Golden Boy take their cut, before the undercard, venue fees etc. Just don't see how he makes that much money, especially if you're factoring in that you're giving GGG double the purse you gave Cotto.
And that's the problem, they're going off of that which is no comparison by any stretch of the imagination. People hear flat fee and right away think the worst. Look at the purses for Floyd and Manny, 150 mill for 80 mill for pac.. cmon man. It's ludicrous for the Goons to use that as an example as to why GGG deserves more money.
I think the PPV price for that fight is going to be about 80$-85$ to order, and I think it can hit 1.5 million Buys. Now if we take that into consideration now we're talking more money .. you know.
I can't see that many people buying it. It'll be mainly Canelo fans and hard-cores. Cotto has a bigger fan-base than GGG.
