Has Anyone Ever Changed Their Style for a Fight as well as Hagler did for Hearns?

Fighters should always adjust for the opponent of course, but against a caliber of a 26 year old Tommy Hearns?

Which fighters have switched their style for a fight with as great success as Hagler did against Hearns?

I'm trying to think of other fights. There's of course, Muhammad Ali in Zaire. He spent some time in other fights before that against the ropes (FOTC), but not as much as his fight with Foreman.

    What else?

Yeah.... Ali against Foreman in '74.... Okay, okay... Everybody knows that....... Well, Ray Leonard made a huge blunder by slugging with Duran up in Montreal..... Leonard's ego tricked him in that fight....... BUT! Come the rematch, Ray got his act together...

bad example to use Hagler/Hearns, he went from boxer to brawler

a good one would be Barrera/Hamed, he went from brawler to masterfull boxer

Aaron Pryor showed the world he could box after being tagged a few times by Alexis Arguello in 1982.... Pryor was normally reckless and wild, but after tasting Arguello's power, he switched-up and began to stick and move...

    Yes, that's the point exactly.

He changed his style to perfection against a great fighter.

What about Duran boxing against a pumped up Hagler in '83.?.?. Only Duran could fight a smart enough fight in '83 and go the distance with Hagler at that time..... No other lightweight blown-up to 156.5 pounds could go 15 rds. with Hagler in '83..... NOBODY!!

Though, I always knew that Duran could box... However, at the lighter weights, Duran wouldn't waste time, and he'd go for the kill as soon as possible.... But that all changed when Duran went up to 147, 154 & 160..

Michael Spinks BOXED the bout of his life in winning a tactical stinker over Dwight M. Qawi on HBO back in '83..... In a sense, that was a smart move and successful change-up on the part of Spinks... NOTE: Spinks BOXED very well in his first fight with Holmes in '85, as well...

Duran's superior skills that night tricked him as well.

That's one of the reasons I think so highly of Michael Spinks.

He could awkwardly outbox guys like Dwight Qawi and Larry Holmes. He could bomb out guys like Marvin Johnson (possibly the single greatest uppercut I've seen).

    Versatile fighter.

So why is it a bad example if it worked perfectly?
