I think the problem is that there aren't any good infighters in the division any more.

Haye was quick but didn't have the inside fighting ability, to be honest his short punching was absolute gash.

If there was a HW in the ''Toney'' mould that was around 6'2''/3'' who could counter with uppercuts and right hands I think Wlad would have fits.

Vitali is slightly different, even though his boxing skills aren't great he's never been outboxed by anybody for more than a round at a time. With him I think you need to go straight at him from the word go, use clever movements to offset his output and just throw everything you have.

If you get banged out in the process, then so be it. Better that than take a slow pounding and end up getting stopped on your feet in the late rounds.

Not really, I think the body attack would prove effective against Wladimir and make him a more stationary target.

Vitali has a lower guard and leans away from head shots effectively, it's a good opportunity to get in some scoring shots.

With Vitali though you need to get him moving. Those legs will give out at some stage.

 

First and foremost you need a jab to beat a Wladimir. That is imperative.

If you think your gonna try and sit in the pocket and wait for counter punching opportunities (Byrd), then your gonna pay a price before you see an opportunity to get something significant done, as Wladimir's greatest strength is his discipline, so countering off of his punches will be few a far between, and when he decides to start mixing the right hand in, because you have stepped up so close and let the tempo drop, he's gonna be able to zero in with the right hand. Now if you think your gonna exist on the outside jumping in and ambushing Wlad with flurries (Haye)your gonna find out he's a master at cutting the ring down, so your movement is not creating those angles to shoot in. Make no mistake about it, Wladimir's ability to cut the ring down won him that fight, as once he'd cut off Haye's exits he'd cut of Haye's supply line to his offense, as Haye had no other way of working his way in once Wlad closed those angles up with his ability to cut the ring down.

You NEED a jab to compete with Wladimir, and you cant wait on him too long.
