Freakin hoping someone steps up for provincials in 3 weeks. Now light heavy and no one my age/weight to fight it seems so might get a walk but cutoff is 2 weeks, which will blow beyond all blowing cuz absolutely working my ass hoping for a match. After that hopefully a filler fight or 2 then nats in Jan, and winter games in Feb.
Just lost against Egor Mekhontsev of Russia at the Strandja Memorial in Bulgaria today. Not every day you meet a World Champion and twice European Heavyweight Champion. But I'm happy about the fight. Went the distance. 10-0 to him. Haha. I should've had atleast a couple of points. Had some nice right crosses, but that's how the scoring system is. And damn, he's unbeaten since 2008. Wonder who's to break that record. Edit: There's several guys I could've beaten here. But we were 9 people in my class, and I drew the Russian in a preliminary. And if I would've beaten him, I would've met a Cuban tomorrow. Worst draw ever. Hahaha. Anyway, I think I'm having a match on the 3rd of March. Shall be good.
He was very strong. He hit me clean, but it wasn't enough to make me get a little dizzy or anything. I've been punched much harder. But the thing is that he is like a machine. Keeps coming and coming, and he has pretty good speed. He was also very ripped and looked very strong at 81 kgs.
Would've loved to fight him! Today Mekhontsev beat the Cuban 4-2, while Pavel Nikitayev of Russia in 91 kg suffered a first round stoppage against another Cuban. Nikitayev went down from a beautiful left hook, came up - but the referee stopped the fight.
