Yep. I'll be 35 in May so as of January 1st 2011 I am no longer allowed to fight. A shame but I'm glad I did it when the chance presented itself.

A real shame, yes. :-( What happens now? Just training or thinking about coaching?

My last fight, lost decisively and was down in round 3. Couldn't get my offence going in the first, improved a bit in the second but was put on my ass in the third.

At the moment nothing at all. I'll get back into the gym when I get my life sorted out, too many things are wrong at this point so I'm taking a short break. Not thinking about coaching either at the moment but who knows.

Okey, best not to stress anything. In some years I'll meet you when you are head coach of the Dutch national team.

The network is too unstable here to watch any videos. I'll take a look when I get back home from this hellhole. :good

Got a second fight in Bulgaria against a strong guy from Georgia. I won on points. And the fight next week is still on, but I haven't heard anything about opponent yet. Oh, and I bought a new video camera today, so I'll try and film more in the future and post it over here.:good

Just back from nationals, Winter Games. Crowds there of over 5000 people watching. Meh, so disappointed. Got the bronze but feel gold was a near lock. In the semi -finals was ahead 4-1 feeding my opponent overhand rights when my hand broke. Knuckle was suspect going in but hoped i could pull it out, but pushed the thing back almost 2 inches and the ref ended up stopping it. In hindsight I should have hid the injury better and just tried to finish with one hand. With one more round left I think I could have did it with one hand and at least get a berth in the finals. It sucks so hard.

I fought in heavy weight too, 20-25 lbs less then my competitors moving up from light heavy to take a shot as our heavy weight bailed at the last minute and didn't show at the airport. Had the speed and the skills to take it, positive of that..but mush for a hand. :?

You gave away the first round, but did very good in the second. Despite the knockdown you did well and came back good in the last.

Next up for me is Grand Prix Usti in Czech Republic, which starts on the 22nd. Another major tournament with strong opponents. Shall be good with some quality boxing. Hopefully the drawing won't be as bad as my last tournament. Haha!

I'm a slow starter so giving away the first is nothing out of the ordinary for me :)

I was way too gun shy. He was faster than anything I had ever seen, and I didn't adapt to him being a southpaw. Which is strange because about a third of my sparring has been against a fast southpaw. I started out with trying to hook over his jab, which worked (37 seconds into the first round) but for some reason I forgot to keep doing it. If I had kept doing that my jab would have worked, but I was dumb and didn't. His guard was reasonably tight so that ****ed up my inside game because I did not throw many uppercuts.

The things I'm reasonably content with in this fight are my footwork and defence. I didn't spar much in the weeks before the fight, in hindsight that should have been more.

I wish I had my 7th fight on youtube, it's my best by far. Lost it because I'm a late starter so I gave away round one, score ended up at 8-6. He was very slick but I figured him out and if there was a 4th round I'd have beaten him :D

Sounds good man, good luck. Any recent fights of you on youtube?

I love this thread, very inspiring.

How many fights did you have in the end, RDJ?

Fought in 2011 for the first time on saturday and won. I had lost 3 in a row so I needed that one bad. Fighting again on sunday and then again 2 weeks after that.

I was also a slow starter in the beginning. Got kinda tiring with all the catching up I had to do. Hehe.

All those things are relatively easy to improve if you work a bit with different focus.

If you have the fight, you should upload it and let us see!

Nope, sadly I haven't gotten anything up yet. Will happen soon.

Won my quarter final against a Czech yesterday, so a bronze medal is in the bag. It has status as an AIBA tournament, so the level is quite high here. In the semi later today I'm meeting a very strong and explosive Belarussian. I have my plan ready and I know how to beat him. Won't be easy, but it'll be fun!
