This isn't a thread dedicated to bashing Holyfield, he was a tremendous fighter. However, through watching a bunch of his fights recently, and his interviews, I don't think I've ever heard anyone make as many excuses for losing fights as he has. How many of these are true, IDK, but there sure are a ton of excuses.

Loss to Moorer - Blamed performance on shoulder injury.

Loss to Bowe in the rubber match - Claimed he contracted hepatitis before the fight.

Draw in Lewis I (robbery) - Claimed his poor performance was due to "stomach and leg cramps."

First fight with John Ruiz - Blamed his lackluster performance on a "perforated eardrum."

Loss to Toney - Shoulder injury.

Loss to Donald - Shoulder injury.

I posted six excuses for Holyfield.

The Klitschkos combined have only 5 losses.

Then again, this is Shaunster we are talking about, so you might be right.

Anyway, the majority of the Klit excuses you're talking about come from their fans. Not straight from the horses mouth like Holyfield in this thread.

To be fair anything after being stopped by bowe doesn't matter because he was very old.

He showed how well he can perform against bowe and moorer in his victories over them. He also improved tremendously for the Lewis rematch.

something was clearly up with him in the bowe fight. he wasn't the same holyfield for some reason it was blatantly evident.

he's one of the greatest warriors of all time regardless of excuses.

When he was on the bad end of a terrible decision in the 1984 Olympics Holy was praised for the dignity he showed afterwards, when he lost for the 1st time vs Bowe he was modest & respectful.

Every fighter has an excuse for every loss, Holy is much better than most post-fight & he has had some major injuries & health problems during his career.

In Moorer 1 Holy injured his shoulder when landing the left hook for the KD in the 1st round, it later emerged he'd been fighting in a state of heart failure & was forced to retire on medical grounds immediately after the fight.

His left shoulder, which he first hurt during Bowe 1 became a chronic problem, after his career worst performance against Donald he retired again, had time to rest & heal & he came back looking healthier.
