Has anyone noticed that Roy Jones Jr is in his own world?

Jones has an encredible ego, bordering on delusion. Of course if a fighter isn't confident, he isn't anything. But the same things that make you successful can ultimatley ruin you.

What are you talking about? What does this mean? Why would anybody feel good about getting ****ing flattened because it helped the guy who KO'd him? Utter utter garbage.

What people fail 2 remember, part of RJ strategy 4 beating you was mental, he defeated most of his opponents mentally be4 he beat them physically. Most fighters came into the ring already thinkin I have no chance, and RJ had to keep that swagger to himself to show that you really have no chance. Every great competitor has that inside of them. Micheal Jordan, Tiger Woods, all these dudes have that swagger about them.

You can say what you want, but fact is hes about to fight most peoples P4P#1 guy. So if Jones beats him, what should that make him? So I wouldnt say the wholoe p4p thing is crazy at all, hes about to fight the "best" around for his belt. He also he just beat Trinidad a HOF and I dont care what he used to weigh he weighed in at 170 obviously same as jones.

    1. Dawson vs Jones would be a 50/50 fight. 2. Andre Dirrel is a 154 pounder that shouldn't have even been mentioned and would get smashed by Jones. 3. I also think Dawson can beat Calzahge, but for you to include Dirrel in that is ridiculous:patsch

Yep, many great fighters suffer from this. Part of their percevied invincibility helps them become as good as they get, but that same invincibility makes them believe they can always adjust and still beat guys even well past their prime.

A boxer without confidence is not a boxer.

The guy has every right to believe in himself, look at his career.

What makes Jones well past his prime?:huh His speed is there, his power is there, his smarts are there. It's not like he's getting pounded out fight after fight and leaving the ring looking like a hasbeen. The man took 2 KO losses(almost 5 yrs ago) and dedicated himself to a comeback. If Trinidad would have beat him, people would not so critical of Tito in a negative way like they are with Roy. The man still poses a real theat to ANYONE and has looked pretty damn good in his recent fights. So i'm wondering, what makes Jones well past his prime?

I was speaking in a more general sense, but there are definite indicators that Roy is well past his prime.

In his prime, he barely lost a round in a fight even when fighting guys like Toney. Now, he just doesn't have the legs and overall ability to sustain that excellence. The 2007 Anthony Hanshaw would never have made it the distance with the 1997 Roy Jones, let alone won a few rounds.

The biggest indicator of Roy being past his prime, though, is his punch output. Even in looking better against Trinidad, he threw one or two punches at a time. Where were the 6-8, even 10 punch combos? They've been gone for years.

They're gone primarily b/c of deteriorating reflexes and slightly diminished speed. Even though the speed or power themselves may only be a few steps behind a prime Jones, all those things add together and not only prevent him from being capable of doing the extraordinary things he did in his heyday, but it also prevents him from even showing glimpses of it for more than a few seconds each fight.

Fighters that base there careers off reflex and speed are normally the first ones to show the first signs of deterioration. Me being a Jones fan even i'll admit he's not the same guy from before, I agree with you there. However look at how he's improvised. In the past he would stay at a distance and pot shot. Now he comes foward presssing the fight. Trinidad expected Jones to move around and looked suprised and at times uncomfortable with Jones pressure. In the Hanshaw fight was the first fight he did that. In the Tito fight he looked alot more comfortable. He's not the Jones of old, but he's still good enough.

Ummmm... Andre Dirrel is a super middleweight, a big one aswell at 6'2. You remember him, the one who destroyed Hanshaw in his last fight, the same Hanshaw who took rounds off Roy on the way to losing a decision?
