Jacobs Beach: The Mob, the Garden, and the Golden Age of Boxing or War, Baby By Kevin Mitchell? The Mrs is looking to buy me some boxing related books for Christmas and i came across these while having a look on Amazon. Just wondering what anyone who's read them thinks. ta
War babys a great book. I think someone on here said the other book had some shocking historical mistakes
Jacobs beach was a real let down, factual errors aplenty and its subject matter veered all over the place. Little bit about the old Gardens, the actual Jacobs beach, then went off about Jim Norris Frankie Carbo and stuff I'd read a hundred times before, then went into a chapter about Don King. Just wasn't the book I thought it was going to be, the review in this months BM is pretty spot on
war, baby is a very good read, haven't read the other one yet, i did hear good reviews although jack doesn't seem to think much of it.
War, Baby is good. Very accessible and doesn't moralise of wring hands. BM review says that Jacobs Beach has got some factual errors but overall entertaining so I might invest or get the library to buy one on.
